Are You Setting Actual Goals Or Bullsh*t Ones?

Real #LifeGoals We Don't Stress Enough

There are always posts on Instagram and Twitter that are captioned with the hashtags #Goals or #RelationshipGoals. However, many of these goals hold materialistic value – such as buying his-and-hers Jordans and Rolexes or copying the relationship of the hottest celebrity couple.

Who made this picture-perfect idea that having cars, watches, and relationships modeled after Nicki Minaj and Meek Mills were goals? There is nothing wrong with having nice items, but modeling the sole purpose of your well-being after these things is abnormal. Here are attainable goals that will hold true value in your current or future relationship.

Good Health

Every day, many people succumb to life threatening diseases; it is therefore imperative for you and your partner to take care of each other's overall health. Your body can become free from diseases and disorders, possibly granting you a longer life to spend with your spouse. Good nutrition in all of its forms – from food to sleep to exercise – will help your mind and body thrive exceptionally. Most importantly, these things can be done as a couple.

Education

You can never be overdressed or overeducated. You may hold the cure to cancer in that brain of yours, so why not invest in your potential? Don’t just stop at your bachelor’s degree; we live in an ever-changing society where last month's phone release is considered outdated, so continue on the path of education to refresh that mind of yours. Knowledge is power.

Healthy Relationships

When life is challenging and you are struggling through a stressful situation, who do you run to? Whether it's your favorite cousin, significant other, or "the man upstairs," it's important to have a relationship with the people you care about. Build a relationship with someone that makes you feel like you’re valued – who can provide understanding, trust, care, and a safe haven when you need it.

Financial Stability

Pay off your student loans and own your home before you focus on financial excess. There are huge emotional and psychological consequences to always living stressfully from paycheck to paycheck. Balancing your finances in order for you to eat or even have gas to transport you to your job are all small aspects of financial stability. If you spend all of your money on re-released sneakers, then you’re focusing on financial excess. Financial stability is the only way to be successful; it helps you progress in life. Once you achieve that, then you can flex on Instagram with pictures of you and your significant other wearing matching Louboutins and Rolexes on your trip to Aruba.

Your Purpose

Are you living, or just existing? How have you helped improve the world around you today? Instead of complaining and dragging your feet through your daily routine, take some time out of your busy schedule to volunteer at your local Boys and Girls Club or Food Bank. Donate money to charity after achieving financial stability. Your life should have a positive impact upon someone else's.

Happiness

Happiness is the ultimate goal! It’s being completely content with your life. You have a bright and welcoming spirit, and you know how to encourage others to do the same. What better gift can we give a loved one than to help them become and remain happy? What better gift than happiness could we receive from our loved ones? Happiness is not only important to our personal lives but to society as well. Unhappiness and anger breed wars and terrorism, ultimately creating distraught and unhappy people.

Overall, it is important to aspire to achieve something more than owning a Rolex. Every day you have the opportunity to grow as a person that can ultimately change the world.

Because when you're 80 years old reflecting upon your life, these are the goals that will have actually had an impact.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
