If you go to GCU there are a few things you are likely to know.

First of all, there is a LOT of school pride. From the Havocs going all out for Basketball games to the events during welcome week, there is never a dull moment. Grand Canyon University is one of a kind.

However, being a Lope means you might just catch yourself saying these things on a regular basis.

1. "Let's get Chik-Fil-A."

Everyone on campus is well aware that this place is one of the most popular and has a line that moves pretty quick. But be careful not to walk across campus on a Sunday just to find out that it is NOT open.

2. "Are you going to chapel/church/life group?"

There is no harm in accompanying someone to their life group or church. This aspect of GCU is so unique and could help students get connected and form some strong friendships.

3. "Yes, my school does have a lot of commercials."

There really are quite a few commercials. In the Phoenix area, you have probably seen multiple billboards representing our school as well.

4. "Hey, I like your Birks."

Yes, it's a norm to own these shoes on our Campus. Pair them with some socks or throw them on and let your toes be out in the open, the opportunities are endless my friend.

5. "I wonder if they'll ever pave Colter."

The dusty cars and long walks to the garage are one of a kind. GCU is known for its immense amounts of construction but the students are all waiting on one necessary change... PAVE COLTER.

6. "I have to do my DQ."

Whether you are a Freshman or a Senior, you probably have a discussion question due any day.

7. "Lopes up!"

If you haven't heard this or said this yourself then you definitely do not go to GCU.

8. "Let's get Dutch.

Dutch Bros. is great for a pick me up or a late night snack. Also, you will most definitely find the nicest employees ever at this place.

9. "It's hot."

For anyone else who has ever gotten sunburnt on their way to class, you are not alone. The heat is no joke here in Phoenix.

10. "Grand Construction University..."

The school did not earn its nickname for no reason. There is ALWAYS construction happening on campus. You hear this name for the school floating about because you see a building go up in about 7 minutes.

GCU is one of a kind. This place is sure to make you feel right at home (even if you are sweating while walking to class). Get your Chik-Fil-A, go to Chapel, and try not to park in Colter, life is grand here.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
