Greater Is He

Our fate doesn't lie in Clinton's or Trump's hands

Let’s just say that, in the face of Super Tuesday, I’m pretty uneasy about the direction in which this country is headed. At this point, the overwhelming evidence is that Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton will be the presidential candidates we will vote for (or against) in November. Thinking about our country in the hands of either candidate leaves me feeling pretty pessimistic about the future of this country. However, a reassurance that we should remember daily of is that our country is in the hands of one much larger than either of them. God is greater than Donald Trump. Greater is he than Hilary Clinton. This truth doesn’t stop at the presidential level though. No matter who you are or where you may be, God sees you, He is aware of your problems, both big and small. He is greater than any and all struggles you face.

Greater is he than the fact that your Internet went down hours before a paper is due.

Greater is he than an all-nighter.

Greater is he than a failing grade.

Greater is he than your feelings of homesickness.

Greater is he than your bad day at work.

Greater is he than the “real world” beyond college.

Greater is he than physical, emotional and mental exhaustion.

Greater is he than your feelings of insufficiency.

Greater is he than a crumbling relationship.

Greater is he than a broken heart.

Greater is he than an unplanned pregnancy.

Greater is he than a cancer diagnosis.

Greater is he than mental illness.

Greater is he than any debt, whether it’s your own or this country’s.

Greater is he than addiction.

Greater is he than your past.

Greater is he than any fear you will ever face or could ever dream of facing.

It’s hard for me to trust God and his divine plan because it’s easy for me to forget that I have someone who thinks bigger than me, loves more than me, and is all around bigger than me. Bottom line: God is greater than me. There is a common misconception that God won’t give us more than we can handle, but this is an outright lie. In our very small and very human power, very little can be accomplished, but when we choose to trust God, everything becomes possible. The more correct truth is this: God won’t give you anything that, with his power, you can’t handle. God knows you. He knows your deepest desires, even those that you haven’t even discovered yet, and he is able to empower you beyond anything you can imagine.

This empowerment comes from putting any and every situation in his able and open hands. When things start to fall apart, you can bet that the king of kings has a plan that will ultimately glorify himself. He has an amazingly divine habit of bringing beauty out of brokenness. So, know this: no matter what problems arise in this country, God is greater than them. No matter what problems you face daily, God is greater than them. Variations of the phrase “fear not” are written 21 times in the Bible, and this repetition is no mistake. It’s time for us to open our eyes and our hearts to the freedom from worry that God gives us. It’s time for us to open our eyes to the fact that our fate doesn’t lay in Trump’s, Clinton’s, or any presidential candidate’s hands. We rest in the pierced hands of Jesus Christ, and honestly, there is no better place we could be.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4.

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
