Some of you may be lucky enough to have exciting travel plans for this Thanksgiving break, possibly venturing to some
foreign country, or exploring a new state.. But the rest of us
are just lugging our dirty laundry and final exam study guides back to our good
old hometowns.
I love my family
and cannot wait to see them (and my pets), however, part of me still yearns for
some adventure this holiday break. So I will settle for the next best thing -- living vicariously through someone else’s great adventure. And no, I do not mean
Facebook stalking that girl's pictures from her awesome trip to California. I
mean curling up, after eating too much turkey, with a good book.
So, I have compiled a list of my favorite adventure/travel books. Warning: I am not responsible for the immense
wanderlust likely to be felt by reading these books.
If you like old-school cool classics
1. "On the Road," by Jack Kerouac.
2. "The Sun Also Rises," by Ernest Hemingway.
3. "Into The Wild," by Jon Krakauer.
4. "Neither
Here Nor There: Travels In Europe," by Bill Bryson.
If you like “chick-lit” (guys, feel free
to read)
1. "Eat, Pray, Love," by Elizabeth Gilbert.
2. "13 Little Blue Envelopes," by Maureen Johnson.
3. "The Last Little Blue Envelope," by Maureen Johnson (this is the sequel).
4. "The Good
Girl's Guide to Getting Lost: A Memoir of Three Continents, Two Friends, and
One Unexpected Adventure," by Rachel Friedman.
If you enjoy non-fiction, and memoirs
1. "Tales of a Female Nomad: Living at Large in the World," by Rita Golden Gelman.
2. "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail," by Cheryl Strayed.
3. "Without Reservations: The Travels of an Independent Woman," by Alice Steinbach.
