With the 2015 football season only one week away, the University of Illinois head football coach, Tim Beckman has been dismissed by Mike Thomas the university’s Director of Athletics.
Reported allegations regarding the football program and Beckman have surfaced. Thomas made the decision to dismiss Beckman with the best interest of the students and athletes in mind. No official information about the allegations or what they are specifically in regards to have been released yet, but before they do become public, Thomas has chosen to act on them.
The only details known about the allegations are that they are conflicting viewpoints of the university and dedication to their student-athletes.
The decision has been relayed to the students and staff. They have all been reminded that their welfare and their safety are top priority at the University of Illinois and within all of the school’s 21 athletic programs.
According to fightingillini.com, the Franczek Radelet law firm has viewed extensive reels of practice and game records, interviewed over 90 people, and looked over 200,000 documents. Taking over Beckman’s position for this upcoming season will be Bill Cubit.
As an offensive coordinator that started coaching back in 2013, Cubit’s credibility hasn’t crossed lines with the allegations on Beckman and was given the green light to take over the head coach position.
Beckman will also not be receiving the rest of his unpaid, five-year contract adding up to $3.1 million dollars along with his dismissal.
It will be an interesting season for the Fighting Illini to say the least as they will be under the pressure of last minute coaching staff decisions and their program being meticulously picked apart under a microscope by law firm after law firm.
