The Most Overplayed Christmas Songs

Songs we love to hear, but hate to hear too much.

It feels like the turkey was just taken out of the oven, but we're already hearing Christmas songs. Now, for some people, hearing the songs make them feel like this:

Or agree with Buddy when he says:

But for those of us who hate hearing Christmas music too early, it can drive us to extreme coping mechanisms:

No matter how you feel about the upcoming holiday melodies, there are a certain few that everyone gets sick of hearing by the time December 25th rolls around.

"Feliz Navidad"

The first time you hear this song for the season, you can't help but sing along. Upbeat and fun, it's a holiday favorite that makes everyone feel festive. But after the 20th, 30th, thousandth time of hearing it on the radio, we are all ready to say adios to this song.

"Last Christmas"

A breakup song disguised as a seasonal love song that makes you wish you were getting that perfect significant other under the tree this year. By December 2nd, you've heard it so many times—from the grocery to each store in the mall—that you feel emotionally attacked by the lyrics. It hurts our ears more that the rabid raccoon that attacks Buddy. Take that broken heart out of our Christmas celebrations!

"Santa Claus is Coming to Town"

While that is a childhood favorite that you used to sing with cheer, it has rapidly become a pedophilic repetition that makes us question why our parents didn't strangle us. This song plays from every festive robotic you can buy—dancing Santa Clauses to flashing, spinning toys. We're asking Santa to not watch us while we sleep this year.

I mean, unless Michael Buble is coming to town. Then it's really OK to check the naughty list twice!

"Jingle Bell Rock"

This Christmas favorite is perfect to hum along to while roasting chestnuts next to an open fire or placing ornaments on the tree. However, after a few dozen listens, you're ready to get rid of the swell jingle bell times. And nothing says holiday cheer like a good rocking and rolling song that is known as a promiscuous soundtrack for teen burlesque in "Mean Girls."

"Santa Baby"

This oddly seductive take on doling out your Christmas list makes me question if the singer is on the naughty or nice list and what kind of relationship she has with Mr. Claus. After hearing it roughly 20 times a day, you start to question if Mrs. Claus is the only woman Santa has in the North Pole.

"All I Want for Christmas is You"

This is the indisputable winner of the Most Overplayed Christmas Song title. Sure, we all love to belt it out with Mariah. Yet there's a certain point (usually December 10th) when her high notes sound like nails on a chalkboard. All I want for Christmas is a new holiday that registers with humans rather than just the canine hearing range.

Even though her song can be grating, we can all admit that Mariah is #hairgoals.

No matter what you're listening preferences during the holidays are, there is no argument that this is really one of the happiest times of the year. We all love spending time with friends and upholding ridiculous family traditions.

And anxiously awaiting opening presents.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all happy listening!

(Who knew that Santa had the meanest nae-nae north of the Arctic Circle?)

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
