What Gilmore Girls Taught Me About Life

Long nights reading and studying are only bearable when followed by even longer unalleviated nights of binge watching Netflix. We all do it, either study while simultaneously watching our favorite shows on Netflix or procrastinating by watching our favorite shows on Netflix. Either way we are all guilty of indulging in what has now become many, if not all, of our favorite past times.

The most exciting time for a Netflix binge is when they add your favorite TV shows that are prime for 24/7 streaming. They recently added such a show, Gilmore Girls one of my personal favorites and I already can’t stop watching. Gilmore Girls was a staple for me growing up in a small town much like that in the show. The smart wit of the characters, the long sarcastic, yet ironic, conversations, and the all too comical small town drama got me through most of my middle school and high school years.

These are some life lessons that I learned only from years of watching Gilmore Girls and procrastination:

You can’t always help who you fall in love with.

The best response to anything ever is “Oy with the poodles already.”

The only way to deal with an annoying mother is just by acting amused.

How to get over a breakup. The wallowing part is the first and most important step, and eating lots of pizza.

Your favorite TV show is more than just a show it’s a lifestyle. (This very article is exhibit A)

What we are all looking for in life is to find a nice person to hang out with until we drop dead. It really isn’t too much to ask.

Don’t try to act cool around your crush it just never plays out well and ends in some ungraceful footwork.

Just because you are attracted to someone or something doesn’t mean you should do anything about it.

The only point of doing anything is to be able to write about it. Experience is everything.

Some things are just never meant to be, no matter how much we wish they were.

There is no insult like a Paris insult. Delivered by the master of shaming, no one would stand a chance if confronted by Paris.

Relationships are hard.

Grades are more important than looks every single time.

Get your priorities straight.

The only boys worth ruining your life over are the ones with motorcycles.

Mornings are overrated and obviously so is exercising.

Just because we don’t like something doesn’t mean we can avoid it forever.

Chinese food solves all problems. Food in general solves all problems.

It’s easy to be flexible as long as everything is exactly the way you want it.

A great guy is not always the right guy.

No one is perfect.

If you love someone enough, you can overcome any fight.

If you lead, I will follow.

That sometimes you just need your mom.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
