Boulder: The Reason I Have Trust Issues

Living in Boulder for a year has taught me my strengths, but also my major weaknesses.

At the end of the day, we all just need to laugh off our problems.

Upon moving to Boulder, I realized many things.  I found many things about CU Boulder that I loved.  But I also found many things that give me some major trust issues.

The first day moved in, I felt pride.  Look at me.  A big college girl now.  What a stud.  Then I felt something else.  An itch.  It started on my elbows and in 10 hours, spread all over my body.  A hives rash, as the lovely gentleman at Wardenberg pointed out to me.  Funny, rashes occur when you’re allergic to something. I was tested.  I am not allergic to anything, except for (drumroll please) Boulder itself.

Update: I take a Claritin a day now.  Haven’t had a rash since the first week of school.  Still not allergic to anything tangible.

I went to the CU Spring Football game to see a friend who was playing in the game. I checked the roster and it said he was playing for the team with black jerseys, so I sat on that side of Folsom Stadium and cheered.  Half time came around and we still could not find this dude.  Maybe he was injured and sitting out? We went to the other side of the stadium and saw him playing for the team with white jerseys.  He had to sit out for the Second Half.  Oops, I never got to see him play.  Thanks a lot roster.  That piece of paper lied to me, right to my face.

One morning, I woke up and looked outside of Libby dorm and saw a beautiful sunrise.  I opened my window and it was so warm and refreshing! I put on a sundress and some sandals to enjoy walking to class on this beautiful spring day.  I get out of class an hour later and oh, what’s that?  It’s snowing. Yes, snowing ladies and gentlemen.  I get to walk back to Libby dorm from the Wolf Law building in slushy snow.  God has forsaken me, and he took the sun with Him.

Update: 4 hours later it’s sunny and gorgeous again.  Farrand field is full of volleyball and Frisbees and puppies and that one girl who has a magic flying stick that she kind of dances with.  She’s lovely and has magical abilities, and if you’ve seen her you will know what I’m talking about.

The Mac n’ Cheese at the C4C looks like the best cheesy noodles I will ever put in my mouth.  But they look so creamy and delicious because they are filled with lies.  Bland.  All they have to do to get back on my good side is to make Kraft Mac N’ Cheese instead.  That is all C4C.  THAT IS ALL.

I got to my 9 o’clock at 9:00 AM.  I rushed to my chair.  Thank goodness, the teacher isn’t here yet.  I’m safe from being yelled at.  At 9:12 AM I began to grow suspicious about that theory that if a teacher doesn’t show up after 15 minutes, students can leave.  Is that a real thing?  No one ever confirms or denies it.  At 9:16, I wondered if the teacher was ok.  She has never been late before, and today she is MIA.  People begin leaving and I begin regretting waking up to my alarm at 8:30.  I could have slept in.  Ugh.  At 9:20 she arrives and apologizes.  I think we should get extra credit or something, come on woman.  I COULD HAVE SLEPT IN.

Mmm I love getting in bed after a long day.  My feet are killing me, but none of that matters now that it is time to go to bed and everything is so soft and FIREALARM.  FIIIIRRRREEEEEALLLLLLAAARRMMMM.  That’s nice Dorm, real nice.  You waited until the exact moment I was about to fall asleep to have a fire drill.  Midnight AND 26 degrees outside.  Hahaha you got me good this time Dorm.  Touché.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
