When I saw " The Notebook," I didn't cry. Not the first time, not the twelfth time, and not in between.
When we gave my dog away to a pet adoption agency, I didn't cry.
I have always lived by the famous saying, "I don't cry."
You're probably thinking, "Wow, this girl doesn't have a heart." But I promise I do! I just don't bawl my eyes out when I'm sad or emotional. We all know that person with us at the movie theater who is the only one without tissues and swollen eyes -- that person just happens to be me. But I, like everyone else, have soft spots.
1. Onions. They do it to everyone.
Onions produce a chemical irritant called syn-propanethial-S-oxide. It stimulates the eyes' lachrymal glands, so they release tears. It's inevitable.
2. Allergies.
Not everyone has allergies, but those who do, understand. Whether it's pets or weather or something else, there is nothing worse than having an allergic reaction where your eyes get itchy and won't stop watering. Everyone asks, "What's wrong?" so you have to explain over and over that you're allergic to whatever it may be.
3. Eye drops.
These tears aren't your own, but they still exist!
4. Applying Vicks VapoRub.
A great cough suppressant and decongestant. Also great for watery eyes.
5. Stepping outside into a combination of cold temps and strong winds.
Days with temps in the teens are bad enough, but adding high wind gusts is even worse. We all show up to class looking like we've just been to a funeral.
6. Stress.
Everyone has those days where every little thing gets to them, and they finally break down. Whether it's from school, family drama or a combination of other things, the best way to relieve stress is to let it all out. Even those who "don't cry" (including myself) have these days once in a blue moon.
7. Pain.
Ever stepped on a lego? Glass? Stubbed your pinkie toe? Accidentally hooked your thumb with a fishing hook? You may not have cried like a baby, but you can't tell me your eyes didn't tear up.
8. Drinking.
In college, we all have those drunken sobbing sessions with our roommates or best friends. Because even if you "don't cry," enough alcohol can do magical things.
9. Boat Rides.
Speed boats, specifically. There is no way to escape the strong winds out on the open water. Let's hope you bring sunglasses.
10. Roller Coasters.
Whether it's out of fear, or for the same reason as boat rides, roller coasters more-than-often bring tears to the table.
11. Spicy Foods.
Some people are lucky to have higher spice tolerances than others, but something can always be spicier to get the sticklers.
12. When you accidentally stab your eyeball while applying mascara.
We've all done it.
