It seems like when you turn 20 people expect you to start getting your life together. It's arguable to say that your 20's are the most important decade of your life. A lot of people are graduating college, starting their careers, meeting their spouses, and starting families. With all of this going on, it is needless to say that there are a bunch of life lessons, some of them very difficult, that you must learn. Let's face it, you aren't a kid anymore, and it's time to step up to the plate. Here are 10 things to learn in your 20's.
1. Don't let your mistakes define you.
You're young and you're still learning about this great adventure called life. Mistakes are inevitable; it's called living. Though some are greater than others, don't let your mistakes take control over you. Learn from them, grow from them, and release them.
2. Complaining gets you nowhere.
You have several options, change the situation, learn to deal with it, or change your mind about it. Just don't complain; it gets you nowhere, and people don't like it.
3. Find friends who are worth having and cherish them.
We have all had toxic friendships. The friends who always bring you down and make you feel crappy. Get rid of them. Find friends who you can be yourself around, no judging. The friends who would do anything at any hour to help you out. Those are the friends worth keeping.
4. It's okay to try again.
Failures are opportunities. Use them as a stepping stone to get you somewhere great. Everyone knows the old saying "practice makes perfect." Most great men and women had to work for what they are great at.
5. Forgive yourself.
We've all done things that we aren't proud of. Don't dwell on them; it's not healthy to carry guilt around with you. It's okay to forgive yourself.
6. Boredom is ignorance.
Seriously, there is a whole world out there, go explore it!
7. You never stop learning.
Nobody likes a person who thinks that they know it all. You don't. Let yourself learn and take in your new experiences. School might not be for everyone, but knowledge is.
8. Love is a commitment.
If you aren't ready to commit, don't start the relationship. It isn't fair to either party, and someone always gets hurt.
9. Perfection doesn't exist.
It just doesn't. Try to be the best that you can be, it's that simple.
10. It's okay to not know what you're doing.
Chances are nobody actually knows what they're doing either. If whatever you're doing works for you, go for it.
