5 Reasons I Love Cincinnati

When you hear about awesome cities, it's usually not Cincinnati that people are talking about. People ramble on about places like New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and so on and so forth. I don't think Cincinnati is just the best C of Ohio, but the best in the country, and I have a few reasons why.

1. Delicious Food

Cincinnati Chili. I don't care if you're team Skyline or Gold Star (even though Skyline is way better), you know Cincinnati has the best Coneys and 3/4/5-ways around. Graeter's can please any ice cream lover, and even Oprah said it was the best. LaRosa's Pizza because why eat chain pizza when you can have it from a Cincinnati-grown pizza place? Last but not least, Glier's Goetta. It just so happens to get its own festival – enough said.

2. Breweries

This city's German heritage made it inevitable to be full of great beers. Cincinnatians even knock back an average of 40 gallons of beer a person per year. There is no reason not to when we have breweries including Rhinegeist, MadTree, Fifty West, Listermann, Christian Moerlein, Mt. Caramel and Rivertown. The local brewery scene is alive and well here in this great city. You can even take tours of Cincinnati's Historic Breweries; drinking and a history lesson all in one!

3. Community

Cincinnati is comprised of 52 neighborhoods, and together, make one unique city. Every neighborhood has its own special feel, local shops and restaurants. Cincinnati offers so much to explore and a home to any personality. Any person can find a community here to call home, and I can assure that.

4. Sports

Cincinnati is home to a professional football team, the oldest professional baseball team and a minor league professional hockey team. It is also home to two major college athletic programs that provide a great rivalry, University of Cincinnati and Xavier. You can even enjoy the two competing during basketball season. Go Bearcats! Though I am not from Cincinnati, I understand the huge emphasis on high school sports, and the pride that natives hold for their high school alma mater.

5. Culture

Breaking stereotypes of the Midwest, Cincinnati is actually a city full of culture. The city is full of music, galleries, theatre and dance. There are a plethora of options for music lovers from Riverbend to Bunbury to the Cinicinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra. Are you more into the gallery scene? The modern art is constantly changing at the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center, and it's sure to please. The Arnoff Center, Playhouse in the Park and Cincinnati Shakespeare Company are perfect for anyone who loves theater. The Cincinnati Ballet can make you wish that you knew how to dance.

No matter what, this city has its charm and a special place in my heart.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
