Coming back to a new semester after a break is always a challenge. You have to readjust to hanging out with friends after spending time with your family for weeks and weeks. It also seems like you have to learn how to study, behave in a classroom, and interact with professors all over again. You’re a little off balance, but it’s OK, because Don Draper and the rest of the "Mad Men" cast have advice that will guide you through this semester, both inside the classroom and out.

Keep this in mind when writing answers to essay questions on tests or writing papers. Your paper doesn't need to be five pages longer than everyone else's to stand out.

Sometimes it's a good idea to reevaluate your wardrobe every once in a while. Invest in some new "adult-ish" clothing items to have on hand in case a job interview comes around.

Use your words! I'm sure we've all taken a public speaking class or two by now, and we've learned the importance of both eye contact and what you say.

There is always something to do. Whether it's cleaning, homework, reading, working out, writing, cooking, hanging out with friends, going for a walk -- don't let yourself get bored.

Be original. In your writing, school work, the way you dress, and the way you act. Just like Don Draper's advice about making it simple but significant, make sure you stand out in the crowd.

All around good life advice. Energy used hating people could be used for something more useful.

Don't sweat the small things! It's just like the saying about not crying over spilled milk.

Sometimes you just want to go into grandma mode, and that's totally OK! Some nights you want to go out to a bar and have a crazy night out, and some nights you just want to stay in and chill by yourself.

Don't limit your goals to just what you think you can obtain. Set your goals to what you actually want.

Betty Draper is always about keeping it old fashioned and classy!

This is a hard and unfortunate truth that we will all have to face in our lives. We can't always get what we want, and often times other people will get what we were after. Whether it's a job or a new boy or girlfriend, it sucks when someone else gets what we had our eyes set on.

Take this advice and run with it. The president tries to sell himself to us, the current presidential candidates sell themselves to us, and the media sells them to us.

If you don't like the direction something is going, you have the power to change it. On the surface, change the topic that's being talked about. On a deeper level, take control of your life or whatever situation you are in.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
