The Glories Of God

Even when you do not realize it, God's glory is always being shown in everything you do.

John 11: 40

“Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?””

In the context of this verse Martha is pretty upset that her brother, Lazarus, is dead and that Jesus hadn’t come early enough to heal him. She wasn’t aware that Jesus was about to raise Lazarus from the dead, so was really confused as to why they were opening his tomb. This is when Jesus declares that if she simply believed that she would see God’s glory.

For the past few months a lot of things have been going on in my life and this verse has become very radiant in my head. If I just believe in Christ, I am going to see the glory of God. In the moment, I didn’t see these situations as a way for God to show his glory but looking back I believe that is exactly what he has done and often times does to all of us.

Just this past Sunday I was coming back to school and I almost got in a very terrible accident. I literally almost got hit by two cars coming in opposite directions. Long story short, I was stupid and thought there was a median when there wasn’t. In the moment I literally thought this was it; I was about to meet my Savior…. but I didn’t. After much panic, I realized that there was no way that neither one of those cars had not hit me. God must have had his hand of protection over me because I shouldn’t have been alive right now. But God has more in store for my life and wanted to show me his glory by allowing me to go through this.

Also recently, I had the opportunity to go and share the love of Christ with people in a foreign country. While there, I was given the opportunity to share my testimony at a party and become very close friends with someone I had met that night. Just this morning, they shared with me something I never would have imagined.

Two weeks before I came to their country, they had started praying that the Lord would allow them to meet and befriend an American Christian, in order that they could learn the language better in hopes to use English to share the Gospel with others in the future. Well as a result, this individual came to our party, and in a crowded room the host sat them in front of me. Suddenly, their heart was overwhelmed to turn around and start talking to me. To this day we still talk every single day and they believe that I was the Lord’s answer to their prayers. When I thought the Lord was answering my prayers by allowing me to experience what I know he has called me to do, I had no idea he was going to use me to answer somebody else’s and to use this opportunity to see his glory.

Lastly, not too long ago a couple in my church family lost their son. This was a very devastating situation for our church and for this family but also just another time for God to show his glory. You see since I was in the sixth grade I had been sharing the Gospel with a friend of mine continuously.

Week after week, year after year, I still had not seen this friend come to know the Lord. On occasion they would come to my church but still hadn’t received Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. This friend of mine was also friends with the boy who had just passed away. As a result of his death, and the pastor giving a clear presentation of the gospel at his funeral, my friend came to know the Lord.

After seven years of praying for and sharing the Gospel with this friend I was able to see God’s glory shown through a terrible situation because although this was a sad moment, it was an answer to a prayer prayed for seven years.

Jesus tells us that if we believe we will see the glory of God. I think often times we just choose to ignore it and focus on the negative we are going through now, instead of how God’s glory can be seen in every situation we go through and have already gone through.

So next time you are hurting in a situation, I encourage you to look back and to see how God’s glory has been shown in your past. I promise it will be an encouragement to you to see how he’s going to use your current situation for his Glory also.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
