The inevitable is on its way: the big bad winter blues. The combination of snow, wind, freezing rain, and the worst of all, cold is back again and is moving in for a few months. Here is a list of why Michigan in the winter is anything but desirable.
1. Lake effect snow
This image shows up way too often in the wintertime. The dilemma of lake effect is that the lake we know and love is responsible for drenching us with unwanted precipitation for hours on end. Sometimes it just won't stop.
2. Black ice
This sneaky devil is the epitome of winter fails. From falling down walking to class to skidding along on the highway, this phenomenon is scary and is one to watch out for.
3. Wind
We have all been the person in this picture at one point or another. The wind in Michigan can be brutal and when combined with sub-zero temperatures, it makes walking anywhere a challenge.
4. One day it's 0 degrees and one day it's 40 degrees
The bi-polar weather of Michigan doesn't change once winter comes. The constant cooling in warming is such a tease one spring finally rolls around.
5. Rare snow days
In Mount Pleasant and in general, snow days are hard to come by and are rarely seen in college. Unlike the south, sometimes 12 inches won't even bring a snow day.
6. Driving conditions
Nothing ruins plans more than driving 25 mph on the highway or getting into an accident on the way to see family. Bad roads can put your health at risk and have to be taken with caution.
7. Sickness and chapped lips
This category is the worst of the worst. The cold and flu hit the hardest during the winter, and you can't forget about the chapped lips that never go away.
