The Absolute Best Toys Every 90s Kid Shoud Remember

If you were a kid born in the 90s, then you know what it was like to have a childhood filled with of all the best kinds of toys. We were imaginative, playful kids always making up something to do. More often than not, these activities were always filled with our favorite dolls, trading cards or board games that could never compare to a game you download from the app store. Here’s a list of some of the best toys that 90s kids had.

1. Tamagotchis

These unforgettable little devices took up countless hours of time. For those of you that were deprived as a child, these egg-shaped devices basically allowed you to raise your own little digital pet. The moment you turn on the device, a small egg appears, eventually cracking and revealing a small pet which you feed, clean up after, and play with. What was even better about them was that they were key-chain sized, allowing you to bring them to school, to the park, to your friends house...literally anywhere. This was great because the top of Tamagotchis has receptors which, when touched to another Tamagotchi device, allowed you and you friends’ pet to play with each other, become friends, or even get married.

2. Yu Gi Oh Card Game

I personally didn’t really get into this, but I know it was very popular card game for 90s kids. This card game were based off the cartoon show Yu Gi Oh. The concept is to lay out your whole deck of cards in front of you and face off with one of your friends in duel in which higher cards would win certain rounds.

3. Barrel of Monkeys

Just as the name implies, the barrel contains millions of little red monkeys (well, not millions, but it sure seemed like it). There wasn't really any game attached to this toy. You would simply pour out the barrel of monkeys, grab one, and proceed to attach one monkey’s arm to another, creating a chain our monkey and seeing if you could attach all of the monkeys. This made for hours upon hours of entertainment.

4. Hit Clips

Ahhhhh, hit clips. Before ipods or MP3 players became popular, the most portable form of music were hit clips. This device played little snippets of popular songs such as Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears or N'SYNC

5. Polly Pockets

These little dolls were every girl’s dream to own. They were tiny dolls that came with their own clothes and purses. Polly Pocket and her friends could also have cars, ships, and pools.

6. Candy Land Board Game

The sweetest board game that there ever was! (pun definitely intended) This was one of the best board games to play with friends as you race against them through the CandyLand maze.

7. Play Doh

Play doh was, and I’m pretty sure still is, one of the best kinds of time-killers. So many different colors and possibilities!

8. Perfection

This game required intense focus and fast movement. Racing against the timer, you had to place different shapes in their rightful place before time ran out.

9. Webkinz

Who could forget the joy of going out to a toy store, buying a new stuffed animal, and then being able to log online to a virtual world where your stuffed animal lived and played? All stuffed animals were complete with their own colorful “W” on its paw.

10. Bop It!

Bop It! Twist it! Pull it! Shout it! This game consisted of someone having to follow different commands in a quick paced order without stopping. Definitely got your heart racing.

11. Hot Wheels

Collecting these small racing cars was just as fun as playing with the toy cars. Coming in different models, these cars were always fun to race with your friends.

12. Furbies

These wide-eyed robotic fluffy toy creatures were fun to play with for sure, but those giant eyes always creeped me out for some reason. Either way, they were a huge part of the toy industry in the 90s.

13. Littlest Pet Shops

These tiny little magnetic pets were so much fun to collect. If you were like me and collected hundreds of these little bobble heads, you’ll remember having them scattered all throughout your childhood room.

14. Betty Spaghetty

Betty Spaghetties were bendable rubber dolls that could easily be taken apart and put together. You could design your doll’s hairstyle, change her outfit, or just simply play with them.

15. Easy Bake Oven

Always wanted to cook but were still not even old enough to ride some roller coaster rides? No problem! Easy bake oven was just the thing for you! This light bulb powered oven heated up your baking creations in a kid-friendly way. Look ‘ma! No burns!

Whether you only played with one or two of these toys as a kid, or played with all of the above, every 90s kid can agree that our childhood was filled with the some of the best toys and board games. Thanks mom and dad!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
