Being a lifeguard is one of the best summer jobs you can have, but there are a few things that we all have experienced, some good, some funny, and some really, really bad...

1. You have seen it all, literally.

2. On slow days, you hope someone will break the rules.

3. You can’t count how many times a day you ask people to walk.

4. You’re constantly on lost child mode.

5. You dread the moment the waves turn on, because that means you have to stand up.

6. You try to figure out what rotation you need to start at to have last break.

7. During the summer you adopt the eau de parfum Chlorine, and it never seems to go away.

8. You know CPR like the back of your hand.

9. Lifeguarding is the best birth control around.

10.There’s always that one patron that wants to tell you their life story.

11. And the creepy ones that just won’t leave you alone.

12. You’ve had to remind people that underwear does not count as a swim suit. (Please, just borrow one from the pool, for goodness's sake.)

13. No, your child cannot go in the hot tub.

14. You try not to cringe/laugh every time someone belly flops.

15. Pretending to drown? Okay, I’ll just stare and watch.

16. Just a lifeguard? You also forgot janitor, maid, mechanic, and chlorine chemist.

17. You dread rentals.

18. But love grad parties.

19. We all have a special way of entertaining ourselves when it gets boring.

20. You can never understand why teenagers think they belong in the kiddie pool.

21. You make sure safety break takes the entire time, even if it doesn’t need to.

22. Closing time is the best part of the day.

23. You've seen some of the worst tattoos.

24. Working at an indoor pool, you dread those 90 degree days.

25. There’s always that one group of kids that has managed to anger every lifeguard.

26. You’re always on alert at any pool even if you’re not on duty. (Good luck relaxing.)

27. At the end of the day, you appreciate all that the job has taught you.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
