6 Reasons To Become A Volunteer For The 2016 Wildflower Triathlon

It’s that time of year again, the time to sign up for the most exhausting, but rewarding and fun weekend of the spring: being a volunteer at the Wildflower triathlon in Lake San Antonio. If you’re iffy about signing up or want to know more about what it is, read below to be convinced so sign up for the wildest and most fulfilling weekend of the quarter!

1. The Athletes

They’re amazing. It’s so inspiring to see these people competing in, and then finishing a triathlon… maybe even enough to make you think that you can do it yourself someday! When you’ve finally caught up on the sleep you lost during being a volunteer, of course.

2. The Philanthropy

It is a volunteer position, and whether you’re at the finish line, a lifeguard, or at another station you're going to be making a difference in the athletes’ race. How rewarding. You’re the reason they are hydrated at the water stations. You're the reason they get their endless snacks after the race and the one who places that medal over their neck when they cross the finish line. It’s an amazing feeling to know you're contributing to their success.

3. The Experience

It’s thousands of co-eds packed into a lake campsite for two nights, with a bonfire, and a stereo stage dance floor in the middle of nowhere in a magical place referred to as “beach city.” What could possibly be better? It's like nothing you've ever experienced before.

4. The Free T-Shirt

Free T-shirts are great. When you see another person in that WiFlo shirt walking around when you get back to campus it’s like this special connection that you can’t explain, a sort of shared experience. Like, hey, yo, I was also at WiFlo this past year. Maybe I danced with you, or maybe you were at my volunteer station, or maybe I accidentally tried to get into your tent because it was dark and I thought it was my tent (sorry)… but either way, we now have this special WiFlo connection which is a bond that can never be broken.

5. The lack of sleep

OK, so this isn't really sounding like a convincing factor in itself, but the reason you’re losing sleep will be. It’s so much fun to be on this beach of students from your local college to meet and spend all night with, and then complain with the day after when you aren't functional. It’s great.

6) The Memories

You were woken up by that song from "The Lion King" at 5:30 in the morning. The sun wasn't even awake yet. But you got up with your volunteer group and went to your station, and together volunteered the day away.

So sign up ASAPhere. Become a part of the legend and get pumped for WIFLO 2K16!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
