"Didn't we just pass this Pret?"

Lessons You Learn Studying Abroad In London

1. "Minding the Gap" isn't just a quaint saying, it's a serious caution preventing you from falling into the never-ending chasm between the train and platform.

2. Speaking of which, the Hammersmith and City line is always late.

3. You've never been to Cockfosters, but the name always made you giggle.

4. It took you a month or so to learn that the "Way Out" signs at platforms are kind of misleading, and you can actually get off the platform much quicker (thanks, crowd control).

5. Don't go on the Central Line during rush hour.

6. Never get on or off at Oxford Circus.

7. Speed walking down Oxford Street is nearly impossible, and you'll be late, angry, and wondering why all these tourists are wandering slowly down the street with rolling backpacks.

8. Picadilly Circus is where your patience goes to die.

9. It's also the place where you will be aggressively cruised by Italian club promoters.

10. Pret is to London as Dunkin' Donuts is to Boston.

11. Pret's mozzarella and tomato croissant became your go-to hangover food on Sundays.

12. Kebabs make a great drunk food.

13. Never underestimate the size of Hyde Park.

14. The Night Bus is just a nice name for "Drunk Bus."

15. Happy hour is every hour when you see an old man drinking a pint on your way to morning class.

16. There is no such thing as a cheap meal.

17. But samples at markets are a good way to get a cheap lunch.

18. Being hangry is a real issue when wading through the massive crowds at Camden and Portobello Market (but it's so worth it).

19. You shop at Tesco when you're feeling poor, and Waitrose when you're feeling rich.

20. You shop at Primark no matter what but own such a bizarre assortment of clothing now (it's just so cheap!)

21. Your head must be on a swivel when crossing the road.

22. Always use a vice grip when going up and down the stairs on a bus.

23. Nothing quite beats the free access to hundreds of amazing museums.

24. History buff or not, Tower of London is pretty cool.

25. Reasonably priced plays and musicals? Who would have thought?

26. You can always let your Harry Potter freak flag fly.

27. The weather can change from sunny to rainy to windy back to sunny all within four hours.

28. Something nutty is always going on in Trafalgar Square.

29. Every time you travelled outside London, you were shocked by how cheap everything was.

30. Yet, you wouldn't have studied anywhere else.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
