A Thank You Letter To Alpha Phi Omega

Dear Alpha Phi Omega,

Thank you for showing me how to serve others.

Before I joined, I had never used my free time for anyone else but me (mostly laying around and watching Netflix). Now, I can't go more than a week without finding somewhere to volunteer. My ideal Saturday consists of dedicating my time to help others in any way possible. Serving others has become a drug to me, and I'm addicted to service!

Thank you for teaching me how to be a leader.

Being a part of this fraternity has taught me skills that I will have for life. It's taught me my leadership strengths and weaknesses, how to stand up for myself, and how to lead a group of people towards a common goal. I never considered myself as a leader in the past, but now I couldn't imagine myself in any other way.

Thank you for letting me meet brothers from all around the world.

Being a member of the largest collegiate fraternity in the United States allows me to meet so many people. I've made friends from Alaska to New York and all in between. I've even met people from the opposite side of the planet who are also my brothers!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to make lifelong friends.

With 100 percent confidence, I can say that I love each and every one of my brothers in my chapter. I've met some of the most amazing people in my chapter and it's hard to imagine my life without them. I know that no matter what, we will always be lifelong friends and brothers.

Thank you for making me a better person.

I realize it sounds cliche, but I truly believe that I've become a better person by being a member of Alpha Phi Omega. This organization has allowed me to care for others in a way I never knew possible. Serving others for nothing in return is a very humbling experience and it's something that I'll always cherish throughout my life.

Thank you for pushing me outside of my comfort zone.

Three years ago, I was an introverted hermit crab of a person that loved to spent as much time alone in my room as possible. Now, I've broken out of my shell and became much more of a social butterfly. I'm very comfortable being my goofy self in front of my brothers (mostly because they are as weird as I am).

Thank you for allowing me to travel all across the country.

One of my favorite things about being in this fraternity is traveling with my brothers to annual conferences all across the United States. Some of my fondest memories are from attending Alpha Phi Omega conferences. There's so much excitement in arriving at a conference with thousands of people who all have one thing in common: service!

Thank you for being there for me at my loneliest times.

I can't begin to count how many times a brother has reached out to me when I'm having a terrible day. Whether it's dragging me to get Cold Stone at 11:30 p.m. in the middle of winter after a bad breakup or blowing up my phone with dozens of silly texts to cheer me up or staying by my side at a party where I know absolutely no one, I can always count on anyone of my brothers to be there when I need them the most.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of something bigger than myself.

Alpha Phi Omega is an incredible organization that allows people like me to make an impact on this world. The people in this organization aren't in it for themselves; they are in it to make the world a better place, one step at a time.

Thank you for allowing me to become a brother.

You've accepted me for who I am and surrounded me with a community of people who care about me.

With love,

May We Always Be

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
