Waco, Texas - previously a hidden gem between major cities in Texas such as Houston, Dallas and Austin. In recent years, Waco has blossomed into a major city and become a place for 16,000 students to call "home." Living in Waco during this time of growth and expansion as a city is more than an honor, it's a blessing. Here's why:
1. Baylor FOOTBALL
In the south, football creates a sense of spirit and pride in each town, especially in small towns like Waco. It is so great to see the growth and success of Baylor football and the city is so supportive and proud of the beloved Bears. It makes winning even sweeter when you know that the people of Waco share in Baylor's victories because they consider themselves apart of Baylor Nation.
2. Fixer Upper
If you haven't seen HGTV's Fixer Upper starring Baylor alumni, Chip and Joanna Gaines, then you're really missing out. They are the cutest, kindest, most humble, and greatest couple, ever. Joanna's sense of style + Chip's goofiness is the perfect combination of quality entertainment and home decorating. Not only did they choose to stay in Waco after college, but they also made Waco their own fixer upper - by taking a small town that no one's really heard of, and showing all the wonderful things that it has to offer. Their shop, Magnolia Market also yields tourists from all across the nation who follow their show.
3. Baylor University
Since Baylor football has been on the rise, the hype and news about Baylor University has also increased. Baylor has grown and expanded within the past couple of years, and their academics are exemplary. The amount of students coming and returning to Baylor every fall contributes to the growth of Waco as well.
4. Hidden gems
Most people don't think there's anything to do in Waco, but that's not true! There's plenty to do in Waco, you just have to have the right mindset! There are attractions such as the Farmer's Market, events around/on campus for everyone, not just college students, Wacotown murals, hole in the wall coffee shops, and parts of Waco that are dying to be discovered! Common Grounds and Katie's Custard are all specifically Wacoan, but restaurants like Freddy's and In-and-Out are also now opening! It's just a wonderful time to adventure around Waco and eat.
