Surviving Midterms As Told By Elle Woods

Midterms: the bane of our existence. Why teachers would give us mandated tests in the middle of the semester (when we're obviously busy trying to figure out the best way to study and tan at the same time) is a mystery to us all. The late night cramming sessions give us bags under our eyes, we haven't actually showered in half a week, and the constant crying (and trying not to cry) is migraine-inducing. Enjoying a relaxing night of Netflix and chilling with friends isn't an option because there are piles and piles of papers and study guides all over the place — and that doesn't even account for the stacks of ramen cups and dirty dishes that you don't have time to clean. How do we endure times like these? I always ask myself, "What would Elle Woods do?" Living life according to the princess of pink means never letting the haters catch you frowning (besides, frown lines age you 10 years), and even in the face of adversity, smiling and looking your best, because dress-well-test-well, am I right? So when in doubt, watch "Legally Blonde" (and maybe two and three), and survive finals the Elle Woods way.

1. Confidence is key.

2. You know you won’t be fooled by that teacher’s silly tricks.

3. However, buttering them up for a little extra credit can’t hurt.

4. And when they refuse to treat you differently than everyone else (even though you clearly are), the puppy dog eyes usually work.

5. Continue to tell yourself (and everyone who asks how prepared you are) that you are perfectly capable of acing this test.

6. And then immediately doubt your self-confidence.

7. Panic and make a study guide (or a cheat sheet) and share it with your friends. Because sharing is caring, right?

8. Study a lot (or just say a prayer and opt for sleep), because you know you’ve got this … right?

9. Walk into the test with a smile on your face, even if on the inside, you’re crying.

10. And remind yourself that you know …something ... about the subject.

11. Then open the test…

12. While you’re staring at the words on the page (if they’re even words, you’re not quite sure) all you can think is:

13. When you finally turn your test in to the teacher…

14. ...and then you go home and question everything about yourself.

15. But when the grades are finally posted, and you see you didn’t completely fail…

16. …you’re back to your old, fabulous self once again!

So just remember, if you ever feel like you can’t beat test week, do like Elle Woods, and you’ll flawlessly make it through.

Because…

…well, midterms.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
