How To Explore Waco For $10 Or Less

A couple of weeks ago, I had so much fun writing about Austin, that I couldn't help but write about another one of my favorite cities; Waco, Texas. Since coming to Baylor, I've fallen in love with this city and all it has to offer, so I'm always am excited when I get to tell people more about it. Whether you're a student, a visitor, or someone who's lived in Waco for many years, this list will help you get to know Waco a little better, without having to spend a ton of money. Hopefully, you'll fall a little more in love with it too.

Activities for $10 or less:

  • Watch the sunset from Lake Waco
  • Tortilla tossing on the Suspension Bridge

  • Go to Church under the Bridge
    • Make sure you talk to the people there, that's the most important part, and so many people miss out on it when they go.
  • Get a Nutella crepe from the Farmers Market ($5)
  • Waco Mammoth National Monument ($5)
  • Go on a mural scavenger hunt

  • Read/study in the Armstrong Browning Library
  • Magnolia Market
  • Texas Sports Hall of Fame ($7)
  • Look up some of Waco's cool local events
    • The Margarita and Salsa Festival, Texas Food Truck Showdown, and Waco Wonderland are some of my favorites.
  • Wildland Supply Co.
  • Common Grounds concert
    • So many really cool artists come to Waco, which you may not hear about, so always look at what's going on at Common Grounds. Even their open mic nights are the perfect soundtrack to a night of studying.

  • Hike through Cameron Park
    • Climbing Jacob's Ladder is a pain, but you really have to do it, just to say you did.

  • Volunteer at Mission Waco or the Humane Society
    • Waco has so many opportunities for someone to truly make a difference, no matter where your passion lies.

  • Cameron Park Zoo

Local food is the best food:

  • Kim's
  • Ninfa's Mexican Restaurant
  • George's
    • Because you can't come to Waco and not go to George's.
  • Katie's Frozen Custard
  • Manny's On The River

  • Jimenez Backery
  • Klassy Glass Wine Bar
  • Bubba's
  • Elite Cafe
  • Cafe Cappuccino
    • Their pancakes are the best I have ever had.
  • Vitek's

  • Dubl R Burger
  • Jake's Texas Tea House
  • Lula Jane's
  • Common Grounds
    • Kind hipsters always included with your coffee.
  • Barnett's Pub

For after you get paid:

  • Spice Village
  • Hawaiian Falls

  • Possibly Picasso
  • Waco River Charter
  • Hippodrome
  • Paint the Town Waco
BSR's royal flush
  • Actually, anything here is just fun.

I get asked constantly what there could possibly be to do in Waco. but honestly, this list was easy to make, and I couldn't even include every fun thing to do in Waco. Once you love your city, you end up seeing and exploring more. Being in Waco, I've been to community events, had amazingly delicious local food, and hiked more than I ever have anywhere else. Don't put Waco down too quickly, or you'll be missing out on all it has to offer.

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.
