20 Struggles of Going to a Different College Than Your BFF

Times are tough whenever you're far away from your best friend.

20 Struggles of Going to a Different College Than Your BFF

1. No one else has even seen your favorite movie, so quoting it makes you feel stupid.
2. No one understands your inside jokes. So when you bring up a story, no one laughs.
3. You don't laugh as much. It's impossible.
4. You don't get to harass her significant other (in person, at least).
5. However, you can creep on all of her boyfriends and friends via social media. And they probably will think you are crazy.
6. Whenever she visits you or you visit her, you either ignore everyone else in your college town or you have TOO FUN of a night. To the point to where you're both are worthless the rest of the weekend.
7. You can only vent to her via text message. Or phone call. Or Skype call.
8. Whenever she doesn't reply to your text in 2 minutes, you harass her.
9. Her best friends from school call you whenever they can't find her. Also, you are close with her best friends from school (not a struggle, actually kind of cool).
10. You have to go through awkward date functions and events WITHOUT each other.
11. You aren't in the same pledge class. Or probably the same sorority. But that's okay, because you two find a way to provide "Greek unity" and somehow combine the Kappa Kappa Gamma hand signal with the Delta Zeta hand signal. It works (not really).
12. You actually have to drive a distance to visit her. When at home you live 5 minutes apart. Or just at each other's houses.
13. You can't be roommates. Even though you know y'all would have the PERFECT living situation.
14. You wake up to her 100 second long Snapchat to you and you are instantly jealous that she's having fun while you're studying.
15. Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks seem forever away.
16. You are typically too busy to visit each other because face it, college sucks sometimes.
17. You have no one that agrees that you are, in fact, the funniest person ever (even though you both obviously are).
18. You try to describe to your friends at school how cool she is, and they just don't get it.
19. Everyone else you send hideous snapchats to will screenshot them and show the world. You know that she will screenshot them, but only to send you weeks later and LOL about.
20. SHE LIVES FAR AWAY AND YOU MISS HER.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
