12 Things That Happen On a Road Trip to College With Parents

Currently I'm on a road trip back to school with my dad. Although the faster way to school is just down I-5, we decided to take the scenic route, which means more care time and bonding with my dear ol' dad. After being in such close quarters for three days, I've observed a lot about whats its like to go on a road trip with your parent(s). So, here is a quick list of what I've learned and observed, so that you know what may be coming if you decide to go on a similar road trip.

1. Your parent will never be completely comfortable with you behind the wheel. They sometimes that act as though you are 15 and still learning to drive.

2. But, you've definitely developed your own critiques for your parent's driving as well.

3. You realize that even though you and your parent may have completely different opinions and personalities, you have little quirks that are creepily similar.

4. At some point during the road trip, the road rage will cut in and you'll accidentally swear in front of your parent.

5. You will bicker endlessly about what music to listen to.

6. But somehow you'll find that one artist or album that you both love, and the duets and car dancing will begin.

7. Throughout the road trip you'll hear stories of your parent's own college and young adult life that you've never heard before, and you may be slightly shocked or scandalized.

8. Somehow your parent has discovered one social media or another and they think they are endlessly cool using it to update their friends/followers on your trip. (I think my dad actually thinks its a competition seeing who can post a picture on Instagram first.)

9. At some point along the road trip, your parent will start giving you advice and prepping you for the upcoming year, like what to do if a natural disaster happens or what type of boys to avoid.

10. When you get to campus, your parent will become really enthusiastic about everything happening during welcome week. No, they aren't reliving their glory days so much as being excited for you in your college experience.

11. Your parents will embarrass you by crying as they say goodbye . . .

12. But secretly you feel the same way.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

11 Signs You Grew Up In Hauppauge, NY

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
