It is time again for our Presidential elections to come to the forefront. During the course of these campaigns, promises will be made, verbal barrages will ensue, and the media will tell you the winners and losers.
During this particular dissection of political means, let us focus on promises made by each campaign and how votes are gathered. The means to garner your trust with assumptions and accusations, this is the politics of politics.
Preliminaries can be a great time to start investing into politics, these are the most popular these candidates will get and everything is made out to be as broad as possible.Everything is easy to understand and the key issues can be expanded upon over time. However, this is also when politicians start their verbal barrage to try to get your vote.
To do this a number of measure will be used, first and foremost a bounty of promises will be made to ensure the support of people who are firm party supporters. Politicians will use vague promises to try to get the attention of their base and the independent voter, since independent voters usually make up the largest faction of political voters. Every candidate also knows there are a certain number of people who will always vote democrat or always vote republican no matter who the candidate is or what they are saying.
Politicians use this as a sort of “home team advantage” and know as long as they are the elected candidate that a good number of people will vote for them based off just not wanting the other team to win.
Often when politicians travel to smaller campaign stops, they realize there will be little to no media present at the event. A web of contradictions becomes present during these stops as the politicians will make different promises at each stop and will cater to the majority of whatever the attendance is. A politician will completely contradict something they said on a televised event or at a previous stop just to garner the support of these individuals.
Often promises will be made about how the people’s lives will be enriched and how much easier things will be and how the other individual isn’t right for the part because of some arbitrary reason that is usually not well articulated. The vagueness is the key to everything, this early on most of these politicians do not want to be nailed down to a hard position, broad appeal is the most important aspect. Some might raise the question of well these politicians are talking about specific subjects such as taxation, overseas politics, jobs, but while these queries are specific, they are still broad. Bringing up an issue and then not truly delving into that issue is a strategy that politicians have mastered over the years. They realize that people generally hear what they want to hear, so they carefully craft a narrative to fit as many answers as they can.
Even a politician whom people like to say, “he is telling it like it is”, is doing nothing more than manipulating the individual to think the person is being straight forward without any rational thought being put into it. Politics are vital and paying attention to the candidates is an important construct of our Nation, but do not fall for the cloak and dagger of what is said. Look into the issues, look into the backgrounds, what the politician does is far more of an indicator of what they will do, rather than what the politician says.
