The Rise of the Man Bun

The Rise of the Man Bun

Lately our world has been consumed with discrimination, the economy (as always) and the ongoing craziness happening overseas. I find articles posted to my Facebook and Twitter feeds detailing how we should or should not feel about really important pressing matters in our world today. However, most of my generation is focused on something a little more materialistic. I join the ladies of my time in admiring this new fad, though I'm aware there are more important things going on. "What is it?" some of you less likely to be watching E! News, might be asking.

Introduced in 2005 by Orlando Bloom, the man-bun has taken the world by storm 10 years later. More men than ever are sporting the oh-so-attractive hairdo, and we are loving it. Harry Styles, Chris Hemsworth and Bradley Cooper are a few of the gentlemen who have taken on the task of perfectly sculpting the messy bun. Styles, when asked how he does it said, "Throw it up. Roll a lil thing around it. It's just that simple."

There you have it guys, the instructions to winning the girl of your dreams. Many have said Styles' bun is "sculpted by God," and I don't disagree; it seems as if Harry went from the mop head to man bun in such a graceful way that there was no awkward stage (which we all know is hard to accomplish).

I asked a few friends what they thought of the man bun and these were their responses:

"MAN BUNS ARE INCREDIBLY SEXY"

"Sometimes when guys have that long of hair it can look dirty and greasy when it's down. But man buns really let you see a guy's face in all of its sexy glory."

"They look like Jesus. They really get into the whole 'image of God' thing."

As you can see, the man bun can make you look sexy and even more religious. While men such as Harry, Chris and Bradley could probably be completely bald and still be extremely attractive, even men who you wouldn't necessarily think were smoking hot are really stepping up their game with their new hair. Penn Badgley, whose face is very nice looking, has sometimes faltered on hairstyles but has really done well with his bun.

I honestly don't know why I haven't seen more man buns around campus lately. Having a man bun right now is setting you up for some major girl attention. So do it! Some may be against the oh-so-attractive messy wad of hair stuck to the back of a man's head, but let's face it: the ladies love a rugged man. I can't seem to pinpoint the reason for loving this quite random new hairstyle, but it's as if having a man bun automatically makes you some mysterious man with a hidden past and a big heart. The man bun is hot and no one really knows why, but we're not complaining.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
