As the holiday season grows nearer and football season comes to an end, some important topics need to be discussed. And the most important topic of all: who would your favorite coach play in the movie Elf?
1. Nick Saban: The Angry Elf
This one should come as no surprise. Nick Saban is probably the shortest of all the SEC coaches, but that does not stop him from invoking fear in those around him (except for Buddy the Elf, of course). Plus, when is the last time anyone ever saw Nick Saban smile?
2. Bret Bielema: Santa
Bret Bielema started his first season off in the south a little rough by going winless in the SEC. Yet, this season something changed and his team dominated some high-end teams. Maybe he can bring some North Pole magic down for the Razorbacks next season. I do not even need to point how jolly he looks in a big red suit.
3. Gus Malzahn: Buddy The Elf
Gus Malzahn brought the excitement of hurry-up-no-huddle offense in his first two seasons as the Auburn Tigers' head football coach, much like how Buddy the Elf brought the excitement of Santa to New York. While some coaches voice their concerns about Malzahn's offense styles, they eventually gave in and copied him in one way or another (see Alabama, SEC Championship 2014). Malzahn never let others' critiques keep him down and continued to spread offensive cheer for all to hear, not to mention a miraculous season and a take down of The Angry Elf.
4. Dan Mullen: The Store Manager
Dan Mullen seems to be stuck in a rut. Anytime Mississippi State seems to want to win it all, they falter towards the end of the season. Just like the manager, Mullen does not have time for your jokes when he needs to concentrate on his 31-17 loss to Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl this year.
5. Hugh Freeze: Papa Elf
Hugh Freeze seems like a stand-up guy that has a great relationship with his players and fan base, as well as offers words of wisdom when needed. Much like the Papa Elf and Buddy the Elf relationship, Freeze and Malzahn have a close friendship that has yet to be severed on game day.
6. Les Miles: Unidentified Reindeer
If you have not heard this before, you are hearing it now: Les Miles enjoys eating grass. This is why he gets the coveted spot of the nameless reindeer. I am sure he would not mind this though; he would have endless grass to eat in the holiday off-season. While this reindeer is not technically from elf, I thought it had a striking resemblance to Les Miles.
7. Kevin Sumlin: Walter
Kevin Sumlin and his team were new-comers to the SEC West just a few years ago. In that time, Sumlin had a Heisman trophy winner and a win against Alabama. As Walter started his own publishing company, Sumlin set a few record firsts in his time as Texas A&M. Maybe as time goes on, we will learn more about Sumlin and see him add more great seasons under his belt.
