5 Essential Fall Items

It's not officially fall for another two months, but don't return to campus without these autumn essentials.

Deciding on what you need to go back to school becomes more difficult the older you get. You should include some new tops and dresses for going out and game days, but don't neglect these five necessities that can make your entire look.

1. A good pair of jeans

Jeans are a staple to your wardrobe almost all year long and many of us dread spending the money on a decent pair. However, we are doing a disservice not only to our butts, but also to ourselves. Finding a good pair of jeans is like finding your best friend for life. It’s an enduring process, but once you discover them, they are around for the long haul. Do yourself and your behind a favor this season and splurge on some good denim. Joe’s Jeans, Madewell, J. Crew, and Lucky Brand all have great options for every body type.

2. Gold hoops

Gold hoops are back and better than ever. You may have thought this trend had disappeared in 2008, but it has returned and will be a huge hit this fall. Make a good pair of gold hoops an essential to your wardrobe by pairing them with everything from jeans and a t-shirt to your new game day dresses. The Kardashian’s are just as obsessed with hoops as we are, but don’t over do it. Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Altar’d State, and Behind the Glass all have a great selection.

3. Chambray dress

Chambray, button-down dresses were a huge trend this summer, and this is something that will also transition into the fall adorned with a cute pair of boots. A chambray dress worn with statement jewelry will be perfect for football games and tailgates. This dress will also work for chapter, casual meetings, and even church. Some great places to look for your perfect chambray dress are J. Crew and J. Crew Factory, Anthropologie, the Gap, and Lucky Brand.

4. Tote bag

Don’t be caught without a tote bag for your planner, laptop, and make-up essentials at any of your meetings this fall. A bag that will hold everything and will coordinate with any outfit is indispensable. A standard, leather tote bag with organizational pockets will set your life at the ultimate level of convenience this fall. Good-quality leather will be able to hold everything you throw inside it so that you never leave home without every necessity. A classic brown or black leather is definitely the way to go, and your bag will last you for seasons to come. Madewell has an adorable tote in its line right now, but if you’re not looking to spend that much money, sign up for the Kate Spade mailing list and wait for their huge 75% off sale. I guarantee you will find something you’ll love and for a price you don’t hate.

5. Chuck Taylor’s

If you didn’t see at least 50 pairs of white, high-top Converse this summer, then what kind of rock were you living under? These shoes were everywhere and will continue to be a hit through the fall. Let’s face it. Those who say you can’t wear white after Labor Day are outdated and out of style. Rock these bad boys through the fall and save the nice pair of running shoes for when you actually exercise. Whether you go high-top or low, these shoes can take you to class and to the bar on Friday night. Some other great colors to consider are grey, black, or a bright color like red or pink.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
