Going out of state for college is one of the best decisions anyone can ever make. It challenges you in many ways and you become an extremely different person. You also become part of the out-of-state club, a club that has no sympathy for any in-state students.
1. You must become extremely independent.
Laundry doesn't do itself anymore.
2. The drive.
Who doesn't love a good road trip?!
3. Having to meet new people.
Netflix can't be your only friend.
4. You have trouble navigating your college town.
Wait, where is that at?
5. People will make fun of your accent.
No, I'm not from here. Thank you for noticing.
6. You learn the significance of phone calls back home.
"Mom and Dad? I miss you, things are great. Yes. I have so many new friends."
7. Not being able to make a quick weekend trip home.
When everyone else goes home, you have to learn to love alone time.
8. You miss your favorite hometown places.
You would do anything to have it back.
9. Say goodbye to home cooking.
"Where do you want to order dinner from tonight?"
10. You are left out of family matters.
Don't you forget about me.
11. Out-of-state tuition.
Realizing that you're going to make the most of it and convincing yourself it'll be worth it.
12. You get way too excited when you meet someone from the same state.
You immediately understand each other.
13. Learning the new trends.
You have to fit in as much as you can.
14. Having to celebrate your birthday without your family.
Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me!
15. You hate when in-state students complain about the drives home.
Two hours? That's nothing.
16. You have to get over FOMO.
Fear of missing out is a very serious thing. Force everyone to FaceTime you, it's like you're actually there.
