In honor of the 10 fabulous sororities we have here at the University of Arkansas, I’ve compiled a list of 10 ingenious, talented, and beautiful ladies who were involved with Greek life.

1. Alpha Chi Omega: Condoleezza Rice            

A former member of the Gamma Delta chapter at The University of Denver, Ms. Rice made a name for herself and became the 66th United States Secretary of State, 20th United States National Security Advisor, and the Stanford Provost.

Fun fact: She was the first women to hold the position of National Secretary Advisor.                

             

2. Alpha Delta Pi: Deana Carter            

A previous member of the Alpha Kappa chapter at the University of Tennessee, Deana Carter is a talented country music artist whose debut album broke through with a 5X multi-platinum label with the selling of over 5 million albums. She’s won multiple CMA awards for female vocalist of the year and numerous Grammy awards.

Fun Fact: Ms. Carter is still involved with Alpha Delta Pi & recently performed at an ADPI leadership seminar.

                                                 

3. Alpha Omicron Pi: Courtney Kupets            

As a former member of AOPI at the University of Georgia, Courtney Kupets is best known for her 2003-2004 all-around national championships, membership on the 2002 and 2003 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and 2004 Olympic teams. She is arguably the greatest NCAA gymnast of all time.  

Fun Fact: Courtney recently got married in Las Vegas!      

                     

4. Chi Omega: Angela Kinsey            

Angela Kinsey is notably famous for portraying Angela on The Office. As a member of the Theta Kappa chapter at Baylor University, she has numerous film and television appearances and continues to be one of the most well-known actresses of our time.  

Fun Fact: Kinsey supports Alley Cat Allies, an organization dedicated to improving and protecting the lives of cats.    

                       

5. Delta Delta Delta: Sara Blakely            

Sara Blakely, a former member of the Alpha Eta chapter at Florida State University, is the founder of Spanx, a multi-million dollar company. She is the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire coming in on the Times 100 list of most influential people in the world.  

Fun Fact: Blakely is also #93 on Forbes list of most powerful women.                  

             

6. Kappa Delta: Georgia O’Keeffe            

As a previous student and KD at Chatham Episcopal Institute, Georgia O’Keeffe later became known as one of the country’s most successful and important artists, her paintings being recognized as the most innovative of American art of during her time period and continues to be one of the most recognized artists of all time.  

Fun Fact: She is the recipient of the nation’s highest civilian award, The Medal of Freedom.      

                                                       

7. Kappa Kappa Gamma: Mariska Hargitay              

Mariska, former Kappa at UCLA, is best known for her role as Olivia Benson on Law and Order: SVU which has won her many awards, including multiple Emmy's and a Golden Globe. Law and Order: SVU has been successfully running for 16 seasons.  

Fun Fact: Mariska is the founder of the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization which provides support to women who have been sexually abused.        

                                             

8. Phi Mu: Jerrie Mock            

As a former member of Phi Mu at Ohio State University, Ms. Mock made a notable name for herself by becoming the first woman to fly solo around the world in 1964, which she completed in 29 days. She also has a lofty record with 22+ awards under her belt for her accomplishments.  

Fun Fact: A life size bronze statue of the late Ms. Mock was created in Newark, Ohio in 2013.            

                                  

9. Pi Beta Phi: Barbara Bush            

Mrs. Bush, a former Pi Phi from Ashley Hall School, is notable for serving as the First Lady of The United States from 1989-1993 and Second Lady of The United States from 1981-1989. She is the founder of The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and continues to support and work to advance the cause of universal literacy.  

Fun Fact: 4 elementary schools and 3 middle schools have been named in her honor.                          

             

10. Zeta Tau Alpha: Dr. Ellen Taaffe Zwilich            

Dr. Ellen, an alumna of Florida State University, is recognizably famous for being the first female recipient for a Pulitzer Prize in music, and the first women to complete and receive a doctorate in music composition from the Julliard School of Music. She has often been titled as one of America’s most frequently played and genuinely popular living composers.  

Fun Fact: To date she has received 6 honorary doctorates.
