As I, a typical white girl, sit here and sip my Pumpkin Spice Latte while simultaneously devouring a pumpkin spice scone, I have come to a conclusion: Fall = Pumpkin EVERYTHING. Is it just me or is the pumpkin spice fad becoming a little too overdone? Not that I'm complaining, because I'll be the first one to admit that I'm the first in line at Starbucks on the day they begin serving PSL's. But to me, pumpkin spice should only be reserved for certain things. For example:
I was browsing through Kroger the other night, doing my weekly (sometimes daily) grocery shopping and it seemed like everywhere I turned there was Pumpkin Spice flavored EVERYTHING. I get it, typical white girls will purchase just about anything pumpkin. But, come on now, aren't things like Pumpkin Spice Oreos or Pumpkin Spice Kale Chips taking it just a little (A LOT) too far? I don't know about you but, Pumpkin flavor kale chips do not sound at all appetizing to me. Like, Kale Chips? Really America? Like, let's attract white girls by putting kale AND pumpkin together. Now, on the other hand, things like pumpkin spice ice cream or cupcakes sound absolutely AMAZING, and by all means should be mass-produced.
It just feels to me as if Pumpkin is taking over the season of fall. It's no longer Halloween season or Thanksgiving time, it's the season of the Pumpkin. Like, what is fall about? Leaves changing? Warmer clothing? Holidays just around the corner? Not anymore. It's all about the pumpkin. Whether it's drinking it, eating it, carving it, or painting it, the pumpkin is the symbol of fall now. Most people can not even think about fall without the word "pumpkin" coming to mind.
Another thing, I personally cannot scroll through my Facebook or Instagram without seeing at least two or more pictures of someone (more specific=a white girl) holding a pumpkin in their hands or in the hands of them and another person like their bestie or boyfriend/significant other. And the caption usually says something along the lines of "I picked the perfect one, oh and the perfect pumpkin". Aw. So original. *cue eye roll*
SO. Have a Happy Pumpkin-ween and a lovely Pumpkin-sgiving, everyone. And don't forget to thank all the typical white girls (yes, YOU) for this pumpkin overload.
