An Open Letter to my Sister Before Her Wedding

To my sister on her wedding day,

A sister is not like the average best friend. You fight a little more, but with this you love a little more too.

I always knew this day would come, the day when I would get to hear her proclaim her love to someone and ask me to stand by her side at the alter. Not only will I be supporting her transitioning into the next big chapter of her life, but I will also become a part of a bigger family. I can't wait to see what the future holds for all of us, but I could not be more excited to see my sister find someone who is good to her and who will continue to treat her well for years to come.

Before you embark on this new and exciting journey with the love of your life, there are some things I want you to remember as you start your new and exciting lives together.

Firstly, I would like to share with you something that was once told to me by a teacher of mine he told me that everyone thinks the best years of their life are going to be high school or college…he told the class (and I believe it will be true for you as it has been for most people) that marriage and raising his children have been the best years of his life undoubtedly. Right now neither of us can truly understand this fully, but soon you will and I can't wait to watch you have the time of your life with your other half.

You'll both have to make sacrifices: him, a few hours of Sports Center for a few hours of F.R.I.E.N.D.S; you, a few trips to the race track instead of the mall. But you will both love it either way because it's worth it in the end. For better or for worse, sickness and in health entail a vast range of things. Your sickness may be a Netflix addiction, while his worse may be leaving the seat up (no many how many times you remind him), never-the-less you're both human and are bound to push each others buttons at times. I just ask you remind yourself that we get more easily aggravated at our loved ones than others. As your sister I can vouch for the validity of this statement.

Lastly, I just want you to know that I am always here for you in sickness and in health, for better or for worse. As a sister I have always been there and this could never change. In this new path leading to the rest of your life I will walk hand in hand with you as the Maid of Honor on your big day, but as your sister everyday after. I love you and could not be happier for you. Can't wait to see what your forever has to hold.

Sincerely,

Your Sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
