How To Make Your Last Year In College The Best One Yet

When I think about the fact that I'm about to start my senior year of college, the chorus from that song by R.E.M keeps playing over and over in my head. You know, the one that goes "It's the end of the world as we know it." If it wasn't weird to stay in college forever and become a super super super senior, I would be the first to volunteer. Since I'm going to have to graduate and leave my perfect heaven that is college behind, the least I can do is make the very best out of my final year, and you should too.

1. Go to the party

Parties will never be the same after college, so take advantage of them while you can, before the 25+ bar scene, bridal showers, and housewarming parties are all you have left.

2. Take that weekend trip to Vegas or LA or the beach

Just go and be spontaneous! The memories will be more than worth it when you're sitting at a desk in the real world missing your adventurous college self. School stuff and that Netflix show you've been binge watching all week can wait until you get back.

3. Don't stop taking pictures

Take 100 selfies with your best friends. You'll be glad you have them when you need a good post-college #tbt to senior year or an embarrassing birthday post.

4. Take some time for yourself

Independence is key when you take that leap into the real world and leave the comfort zone that is college. Get some practice in now by going off and doing some things for yourself. Grab a good book, an iced coffee, and your headphones, and go lay in the grass for a few hours.

5. Pull an all-nighter with your besties

You can sleep later when you have to be at work at 8 a.m. every day for the rest of your life.

6. Give your number to that cute guy at the bar

So what if he's not marriage material? You may not be interested in him on a serious level, but give him a chance, you never know what could come of it! Best case scenario you get a nice self-esteem boost out of it.

7. Get good grades

The last thing you want is to blow all of the hard work you've put in over the last three years. Don't be stuck during your last finals week (hopefully ever) trying to get a 110 percent on your exam in order to maintain your grade average.

8. Take a class you don't need for your major

After spending the last three years taking only classes that would count in your major or for your gen-ed credits, pick a class purely because it sounds interesting to you. Just because you're a Chem major doesn't mean you can't take that class on the history of Werewolves and Vampires!

9. Stop talking to your ex

If you think chances are slim that you'll ever see him again after graduation, and you know you aren't going to marry him, delete his number already. Don't waste your last year hung up on someone who isn't worth your time.

10. Don't spend too much time freaking out about your future

Don't save your job hunt or grad school applications till the week before graduation. Ease yourself into it and figure out what it is you really want to be doing, at your own pace. Savor the time you have left in college, you'll have plenty of chances to worry about the details of your future after graduation. When people ask you what your plans are, it's ok to say you're not sure yet!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
