7 Reasons Why I Love Going To NC State
Alexandra Meduri

I am one of those people who absolutely LOVES where they go to school. North Carolina hasn't always been my home, but NC State is definitely the one place I've been in my life where I've felt the most at home. Everything about State is great, so sadly, I don't have the space to write all of the reasons why it's so amazing. Here are my top seven!

1. The Wolf Sign

Ah, the famous wolf sign. You can flash this pretty much anywhere and people will know that you're a part of the Wolfpack. It's simple, cute, and lets people know that you belong to a great school!

2. The Football Games

If you haven't been to an NC State football game, you haven't fully lived. My first time attending a State game was as a high school senior (see this article's cover photo). It's also where I decided that I without a doubt wanted to attend State. Looking out into the sea of red and white for the first time filled me with an amazing sense of joy. The stadium is always charged with energy, and it always looks beautiful to me.

3. Hillsborough Street

Hillsborough Street is pretty great. It has all the necessities that a college town needs; great food, bowling, clubs, NC State apparel, shops, coffee, and fro-yo. I probably spend more time on Hillsborough than I should, but I can't help it. It's captured my heart.

4. The Bell Tower

NC State's Memorial Bell Tower is perhaps our greatest landmark. It welcomes you to the campus and lights up red when we have a big victory. The Bell Tower is a representation of our wonderful university and all of its beauty. Plus, it's a great place to take pictures!

5. Howling Cow Ice Cream

Okay, so the fact that we make our own ice cream is pretty cool. It comes in a variety of amazing flavors, and I haven't tasted one that I haven't loved. Howling Cow is my favorite pick-me-up and it never fails to be delicious.

6. The Campus

NC State has a really cool campus, in my opinion. There are tons of pretty places to sit and study, cool wolf statues, and a mixture of old and new buildings that really make our campus unique. I love walking around campus and just exploring, because you always find something new!

7. The Friends You Make

I've made some amazing friends here at State. The people that attend school here are kind, helpful, and really fun. All of the good times that I've had at State would be nothing without the wonderful people I've met along the way.

I have no doubt that NC State is the best school there is. There are countless things about it that make it so great to me, and I wouldn't trade going to school at State for anything.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
