The lob (long bob) has become one of the top trendy haircuts for the kickoff of 2016, and with good reason. Not only is it cute and sassy, but chic regardless of its unsystematic nature. A lob was the perfect decision for me because I wanted to stop coloring my hair and I was already rocking some sick balayage. On top of that, it takes about 0.5 seconds for my hair to become unruly again post brush.
It didn't take me long to realize that this "effortless" style wasn't so effortless. In fact, I started putting more effort into my hair than ever before. Here are some tips and tricks I've learned on how to style a lob.
1. It's all about texture.
My hair is fine, so I have to create my own texture. The two products I love are Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray and Martino by Martino Cartier Shut Up and Kiss Me Texture Spray. Both smell incredible and both yield different looks. Don't be afraid to use both at the same time!
2. Find your pony.
I was scared of the tiny elastic pony tail holders because they rip the hair out. However, they are perfect for a half-up perky pony. Since all of my hair doesn't fit in a cute pony anymore, this look is my go-to. Just be extra careful when taking it out.
3. Practice your curl.
There are multiple different methods to try to achieve the look you want. Now that your hair is short, you don't have as much wiggle room with the way you curl your hair. At the end of the day, go with what style curl makes you feel best about yourself. I personally do a flat curl around my wand, and curl the third section of hair towards my face instead of away from it.
4. Don't fear hairspray.
We tend to fear the crunchy curl look and steer away from trying hairspray. Not only that, a lot of them smell terrible or simply not like what you want to walk around smelling like. Herbal Essences's Set Me Up hairspray not only smells incredible, but it is the perfect amount of hold. It holds the curls and it doesn't look like you're headed back to the '80s either. Finally, it won't break the bank.
5. Let it be.
After all, this is a carefree look. If you over touch it, you'll put too many oils in your hair, weigh it down and feel dissatisfied. Put down the wand and spray and let your lob do its own thing!
