15 Things Texas State Students Are Thankful For

It's getting close to the end of the semester and that means tests, presentations, papers, and finals all are about to hit you at once. During this time, we often lose sight of how lucky we are to go to such a wonderful school, in such a beautiful city. In light of my Halloween article, 15 Scary Situations Most Texas State Students Have Found Themselves In, here are 15 things Texas State students are thankful for.

1. The location

Emmanuel Ruan says he is most thankful for the geographical location of San Marcos. We are close to Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels and Gruene so there is always something fun to do.

2. Purgatory Creek

Andie Sendejar and Megan Gordon are thankful for hikes at Purgatory Creek. There is no better place to end your day and watch the sun set.

3. Lolita's breakfast tacos

Laura Checkley gives thanks for the goodness that is Lolita's. 8 A.M.s are bearable if you have a Lolita's breakfast taco in your hand.

4. The hidden hammocks

Lexi Leleux is grateful for the hidden hammocks on campus. Little hidden treasurers like this make our campus unique and beautiful.

5. Boko's Living Room

Boko's Living Room is located on the first floor the the LBJ Student Center. Inside Boko's Living Room you can find couches, pillows, blankets and even alarm clocks. Megann Kroenert is grateful for a quite place to nap in between classes.

6. Manske Rolls

These are a San Marcos classic. Gil's manske rolls were President LBJ's favorite cinnamon roll and Sarah Wallace is thankful for them as well.

7. The Rec

Our rec has everything you can possibly need or imagine. An indoor track, lap pool, and so many machines to choose from, it's no wonder that Katherine Turner is grateful for such a wonderful place to workout.

8. Swipes

Freshmen Lindsay Hoerig and Jesse Ortega are thankful for the meal trades that Texas State meal plan offers. For a swipe you can get Chick-fil-A, Einstein's, and many others. Us upperclassmen are jealous and will accept any of your extra swipes during finals.

9. SLAC

Bobbi Yanoviak is very thankful for the SLAC Lab and it's tutors for helping her succeed in her courses. If you are struggling in a class take advantage of this free tutoring assistance Texas State offers.

10. Chimy's

God gave us Chimy's for the ups and downs. Jordan Haby says Chimy's is her heart and soul. It is now open on Sunday's for everyone's football watching needs, so there's even more to be thankful for.

11. No Friday classes

Hailey Stirneman is thankful for weekends that begin on Thursday. If you're lucky enough to not have Friday classes, be grateful for this blessing. If you are unlucky and have them, better luck next registration.

12. The hills

Some people hate all the uphill walking and stairs that comes with attending Texas State, but Brittany Martin is grateful for them because of the calf muscles she has developed. Best legs in Texas, am I right?

13. Local coffee shops

There are many local coffee shops around town that are great for studying or catching up with a friend. Lindsey Luke and Katherine Reed agree that this is what they are most thankful about San Marcos.

14. School

Elisabeth Hill is thankful for the opportunity to attend school and learn. We often forget this is a blessing that not everyone receives. Thank your professors, thank your parents, and anyone else who is helping you receive a higher education.

15. Community

This past year, San Marcos and surrounding areas have been hit with tragic storms and flooding. Homes and lives were lost. Ashley Simmons is thankful for the community of San Marcos that worked together and is continuing to work to rebuild what was lost.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
