An Average Cinephile's Zombieland Movie Review

It's almost here.

After 10 long years we're finally getting a sequel to one of the greatest zombie movies of all time. But what made Zombieland so great? And why should you be excited about the sequel? It's time to nut up or shut up as we take a deep dive into Zombieland.

Ever since I saw the movie all of those years ago closer to when it was first released, I've been in love with it. Zombies? Check. Action? Check. Characters that you want to follow and care about? Check. But what really makes this movie stand out above the rest is it's comedy.

This movie is absolutely hilarious, to the point where I still laugh at the punchlines even though I've seen the movie close to 30 times. The dialogue between the characters is sharp and extremely well written, and the clashing personalities lead to some truly funny story moments.

Zombieland is one of the few movies that I can honestly say has a perfect cast. Woody Harrelson plays the cool cowboy, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin play two sisters who are only worried about themselves, and Jessie Eisenburg just plays himself in a zombie apocalypse. This cast truly shines in their well-written roles that help to carry this movie into legendary status.

Admittedly, some of the character and story tropes used in Zombieland are a bit less than original, but it's the delivery that makes it special. In the end, this movie has a few strong thematic elements that really drive across some heartfelt moments and teaching points in a movie that's supposed to make you laugh. This is the aspect that really puts Zombieland over the top as it proves that it can deliver a message despite its comedic focus.

The sequel comes out Friday folks. A brand new adventure with the same great cast, writers and producers. I think we're really in for a treat with this one. Be sure to check back here next week for my review of Zombieland 2.

Also, we're gonna try something new this week. I'm a huge music fan and I'm sure ya'll are too, so every week I'm gonna recommend a song by a band that I've been listening to that week.

This weeks song is No Problem by Issues, an alt rock/metal band. Check it out!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
