Social media is glutted with memes, jokes and sometimes blunt criticism about how women present themselves online.
This relentless commentary about "false advertising" is overdone, not particularly clever and, at worst, pretty damn hurtful. However, they keep going around, and Twitter user Eskimo Jay (who doesn't get a link to his profile, because he's kind of a jerk) recently tried to make his own contribution to this trend.I imagined he expected some likes, some retweets saying things like "You know that's right" and then for it to fade into obscurity like every other joke like this. One thing he did not count on was singer, actress, and part-time Twitter avenger Zendaya seeing it and saying, "NOT ON MY WATCH, DAMMIT."
Zendaya not only shut this man right down, she asked her followers for help in finding the woman pictured above. The reason? Zendaya, who recently launched a clothing line aimed at "all ages, shapes and nationalities," had a modeling contract for her.
She asked, and her followers delivered. The woman in the photos was soon identified as Twitter user honey dip, who, needless to say, was astonished at Zendaya's offer.
I hope everything works out for both of them. To everyone who's been the target of a "false advertising" joke, in the words of Zendaya, "slay on, queen."
