On March 23, 2017, Zayn Malik treated his fans to an unexpected collaboration with Canadian rapper and singer PARTYNEXTDOOR. The single also comes with the announcement that Zayn’s sophomore album (which is currently untitled) will be released this summer.
The first ten seconds of this song heavily remind me of music you’d hear while playing an old school video game, in the best way. This song is destined to be one of, if not the song of the summer. The beat is unique, upbeat, and tropical-esque; I have high hopes that this song will be all over the radio in the coming months.
Lyrically, the song is about taking it easy and not being too caught up in finding love. You're still young, so instead of wasting away looking for love, take it easy and live your life.“This could be something if you let it be something,” Zayn sings over the groovy beat.He then hands it over to PARTYNEXTDOOR; “I know I’m working my magic, and I know you’re digging fabric, I’m boyfriend material,” he croons. The two then merge together to sing the rest of the song. Their voices blend perfectly and compliment each other wonderfully. An accompanying lyric video was also released, and it contains an orange, sunset-like background, which also goes with the summer vibe of the song.
Overall, I love this song. It is an amazing summer bop, laid-back yet upbeat at the same time. The vocals are smooth, and it’s definitely a song you’ll want to sing along to. It’s also a peek at what to expect for Zayn’s upcoming sophomore album, which I also have high hopes for.
