Most people who favor One Direction with all five members would have a bone to pick with what I'm about to say. It might be an unpopular opinion, but Zayn Malik is better without the rest of the members of One Direction. His creativity and talents have stopped being undermined by a group setting, and he is finally writing the music that he wants to write.
Personally, I have always been a huge fan of One Direction. I mean, what girl wouldn't love five adorable guys with British accents? With the fact that they're British and ridiculously cute set aside, they all have serious talent. Unfortunately (time for another unpopular opinion), a lot of their talent is being masked by being in a boy band. From the beginning during "X Factor," each one of the boys in One Direction have shown potential as artists. However, something about Zayn always stood out. His voice was reminiscent of an early aged Justin Timberlake and Mario mixed together.
With the recent release of his new album, "Mind of Mine," the general public has gotten a small taste of what Zayn is really capable of. Early on and a little after he first announced that he was writing his first solo album, he released his first single "Pillowtalk." While this song definitely shredded the boy band image of Zayn, it also showcased his voice and personal musical styling. While One Direction's music fits into the pop genre, Zayn's newest album is far from that. He dips his toes into the world of R&B and does not censor himself at all.
That is the exact reason why Zayn is better off without One Direction. As a solo artist, his creativity is not stifled by four other members or being in a boy band. Not only is his creativity not stifled, but his talent is no longer hidden. In a boy band, the solo performances are equally distributed to each member. Zayn has always stood out amongst the other members and still received the same number of vocal appearances in each track. Now as a solo artist, he is free to showcase his incredible voice and creativity in whichever way he desires.
