" Our ancient experience confirms at every point that everything is linked together, everything is inseparable" -Dalai Lama
Bronx native, Zaire Michel has been leaving all her emotions performing on stages since the tender age of five years old. There isn't any floor she can't touch or height she can't reach because the connection she brings through dancing creates a reality we all have or will eventually face. I was given the opportunity to sit with the phenomenal "Zai" and I got the chance to dive more into her life and what she stands for. We all have the potential to be great and Zaire is an exemplary young woman on and off the stage.
What has the art of dancing taught you throughout your journey?
Zai: Never stop training and brushing up on the basics!
What was your first performance like as a professional?
Zai: It was through a touring summer dance program called "Young Dance Makers" in 2010. It was great getting the experience to travel to different venues, well known at that, and perform in front of people and getting paid! Best experience in the world.
When you look back at your experiences as a dancer what would your present you say to your past you? Do you have any regrets?
Zai: *sigh* Don't hold yourself back! You're such a star and a force to be reckoned with.
Would you like to be featured in music videos or be a video choreographer?
Zai: Well, I'm currently featured in music videos and have had the opportunity to choreograph. I honestly like both roles very much!
How has your support from fans, friends, and family kept you motivated?
Zai: I appreciate the pep talks that my friends, peers, and mom have given me. I honestly push myself more than they do (as it should be). But I'm grateful for the input of those genuinely supporting me.
Will you ever go forward in starting your own dance studio?
Zai: Once I'm 50 and my acting career has reached a certain peak I'd love to open my own studio and possibly a community center.
Do you want to work with young teen girls and boys who slay in dancing and motivate the youth being a positive influence in their life?
Zai: Yes, absolutely! Every now and again I see talented young dancers and I want to adopt them or lead them to the path of greatness but they're support system isn't there or legally there's only but so much I can do!
Zai's style, poise, and grace can touch the hearts of many young women, men, and teens. We all have dreams and aspirations, but the ones who go out and put exceptional effort into their dreams will achieve everything.
Stretch. Point. Slay.
