We have all experienced those annoying advertisements before our videos on YouTube. I always seem to get the longest advertisements before something that I am trying to watch, and sometimes, my video won't load even after I have watched that long advertisement. I get tired of seeing campaign ads and advertisements for the next scary movie that's coming out, especially after I have seen them for what seems like the billionth time. Although it is frustrating and annoying, those advertisements really help our favorite YouTubers.
To understand all of this, it is important to understand what it takes to make money with YouTube, and how YouTube compensation works.
To start being paid by YouTube, you must first be a partner with YouTube. It is not set in stone what the exact criteria is for becoming a partner, but this starts with getting at least 1,000 views on a video that meets Google's terms of use. Once you reach that mark, you can apply for partnership.
Once you are a partner, you can move towards getting paid. Being paid is linked to the advertisements I talked about earlier. As a partner, advertisements will run on your video before it starts, and you will be paid based on how many views you have. It also depends on how many clicks the advertisement receives. You will get a certain amount of money for the amount of clicks the advertisement receives per 1,000 views, along with how many views the video actually got. This makes sense, because Google gets ad revenue from the ads that are run. Earnings for partners are calculated at the end of each month.
It is not known how much each YouTube partner makes, because partners are not allowed to say how much they make.
Some people say that they don't think they should have to watch ads, but I think that it is worth watching ads if you are getting good content, because it supports YouTubers that work hard to make those videos. YouTube has made a way for people to view videos ad free by paying for YouTube Red, which is $9.99 a month. With YouTube Red, you get ad free viewing, plus special videos and YouTube movies from some popular YouTubers, such as two of my favorites, Dan and Phil. One of my favorite YouTubers, Matthias, explains this in a really easy way to understand.
So, next time you complain about having to watch a YouTube ad, just know, by watching the ad, and possibly clicking on the ad, you could be supporting the people who put lots of effort into making the quality entertainment videos you watch,
