Youth in Action

A message for those in opposition to the youth of our nation standing up.

With all the recent drama in the world, we are finally seeing young people come out and stand up for what they believe. This has been a much-needed action for far too long and personally, I am loving it. However, not everybody feels that this is a good thing. It is a common idea that children should be seen and not heard. That they should speak only when spoken to and that they really play no importance in the world as a majority of them do not feed into the economy and are not old enough to vote. This, however, is a concept that really needs to stop being pushed.

How can adults complain about young people not taking an interest in politics but condemn them when they finally speak up? It seems to me that it is only seen as okay to speak as long as you aren't challenging those who are "superior" to you. Since when is this the thought process of Americans? Aren't we essentially founded on challenging "the man" and fighting against injustice? Isn't that the exact reason we became a country in the first place? Correct me if I am wrong but it has never been the American way to simply sit back and allow those in power to completely dictate us.This includes the young people of our country being able to stand up because it is just as much their country as it is everyone else's.

What is even more surprising to me is that these students are practicing peaceful protests and are still being treated like complete delinquents. How does this make sense? We have complained about riots over injustice and how they are causing more harm than good but now we have a large scale peaceful protest and are treating it the exact same way. It seems to me that they just don't want you to protest because they are afraid. They are afraid that you will uncover the lies and the terrible things that get done in their favor. They are afraid because they've never been challenged on such a scale. They are afraid of my generation and all the ones that follow because we are the future. We will be the change that they never wanted to fight for. We aren't afraid to stand up against injustice and we aren't going to allow those in power to ignore our voices.

We have been raised by parents who encourage vocalism and who have given us the opportunities they weren't given. We have the tools we need to make the difference and we are using them to our full advantage. The change may not happen today or tomorrow, but I promise you we will be there every single day fighting for that change. Sooner than you think these young people will be the ones holding office and the ones voting. Once that happens it'll be too late to stop us, though I would love to see you try.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

The holiday season is full of stress, debt, and forced conversation. While we rush through the month of December, it's important to take a step back and enjoy the moments before they're gone. Most families love to watch Christmas movies, but these beloved films provide more than entertainment. Here are 10 life lessons that I've learned from the holiday classics we watch every year.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
