When You’re The “Mom” Of Your Friend Group…

As a fellow “Mom” personality type, I’ve learned to love this role. Here are some things I’ve noticed for all you nurturing types out there.

  1. You are a morale checker. You’re always the one making sure everyone is happy and having a good time when you are all hanging out.
  2. You carry a big purse with LOTS of things in it. Whether it be sunscreen, sunglasses, or even a first-aid kit for some, you always come prepared.
  3. You make a point to make sure everyone feels included. This quality of a mom personality is quite a great one. You want to be sure that everyone has their place in friend groups.
  4. You’re the nurturer. If someone is hurting, physically or mentally, they naturally want to come to you, and you are just the right person. You LOVE making others feel cared for.
  5. You’re typically the one organizing get togethers. Let’s be real, you're are the planner. You love to organize and plan events and activities for the friend group to do.
  6. You’re the encourager. It is your pride and joy to make others feel great about themselves and what they do.
  7. You’re the advice giver. You’re always there to help guide a friend in making a good decision, and although you’re gentle, you’re honest.
  8. You tend to play it on the cautious side most of the time. While other friends are not always thinking about the consequences of some of their actions, you analyze the consequences of EVERY action you take.
  9. You’re a deep thinker. You tend to be one who is able to have a sense for certain situations and personality types. You love to analyze why people said what they did and the deeper meaning behind it all.
  10. You love to support friends in their accomplishments. You’re the one that attends their events. Whether it be a basketball game, a play, or anything. You name it, and you’ll try your very best to be there.
  11. You enjoy calling over texting. Nothing beats a good ole' conversation.
  12. You're typically the driver to any event. As the more cautious one, you love to be behind the wheel.
  13. You enjoy giving other people rides. Whenever possible. Picking people up is a joy for you.
  14. You love to be in control. If you could have everyone just listen and do what you have to say, life would be so much easier for them... Right?
  15. You typically enjoy baking because, I mean, who doesn't? Making cute decorated cupcakes to your mom's famous chocolate chip ones, it's what you love doing.
  16. You surprise people with little treats. Whether it be a cute note or a homemade cookie, you're always into making people feel special.
  17. But most importantly… You bless the friend group by simply being YOU.

Love,

A fellow motherly person

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
