You’re not perfect. No one is. No one ever will be. So stop trying to be. Trying to be perfect is nothing but wasted effort that will leave you exhausted and disappointed with yourself. Aren’t you tired? Aren’t you tired of trying to make good grades? Aren't you tired of trying to please your friends, wear the right clothes, and say the right things? Aren't you tired of constantly polishing up your appearance so that you look like the person you’re supposed to be, the person that this world wants you to be? It’s exhausting, isn’t it? Our world and culture both tell us that we have to be perfect. We have to be perfect to be loved. We have to be perfect to be "successful". We have to be perfect to have good friends. And we fail. Over and over again. The straight A student makes a B and is no longer a straight A student. The perfect Christian gets drunk at a party and is no longer perfect. The perfect employee flubs up at work and gets fired. The perfect daughter disappoints her parents and is once again not a perfect daughter. We all fail at our attempts to be perfect. Constantly.
These failures do more than disappoint us. These failures eat at our soul. There is someone, however, who is completely okay with our imperfection. His name is Jesus. If you're reading this, Jesus is offering you an invitation today. If you are tired of not being perfect. If you are tired of facing your failure daily; if you're tired of "not measuring up", this invitation is for you.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”-Matthew 11:28
Jesus is perfectly alright with your imperfection. Jesus is ready to free you from your burdens, your attempt at religion, your FAILURE. Jesus isn’t into religion. He’s into YOU. And He wants you to let Him love you. When you disappoint your parents, when you disappoint your friends, and maybe even yourself every single day; Jesus doesn’t tell you to be perfect— He says let ME be perfect for you. Let Him love you. Be still with Him and find rest in Him. His love is perfect, and in Him you will find the perfection that you’ve been longing for. You’re not perfect, and you never will be. But thankfully He is and He always will be.
