How I Feel When Someone Says, "You're Just Like Your Mom"
Nikki Mauder

Ever since a young age, I have always been told that I not only act, but look like my mom. It wasn't until I grew older that I began to recognize and appreciate how much of an honor that truly is. My mom is the most selfless, beautiful, strong and compassionate woman I have ever met. Therefore, with individuals seeing a resemblance in us, that means I am one step closer to being half the woman she is. Over the years, I have watched my mom handle every circumstance she has encountered with such poise and class even when faced with adversity. This has allowed me to learn that no matter what life throws at you, everything always has a way of working out in the end.

We often hear the phrase, “Mom knows best,” and although it is tough to admit, that phrase is very accurate. At the end of the day, moms always want what is best for their children and will be that person to pick you up when you are feeling down. I owe my mom a big thank you for constantly being there for me and providing the best guidance. I can always count on her to be my partner in crime, my number one fan, someone to give fashion advice and provide the absolute best hugs.

When leaving for college, she was one of the hardest goodbyes, but the distance allowed us to grow even closer, and I was able to appreciate our bond more than ever. Even with being miles away, my mom was always there to reassure me everything was going to be OK after a tough exam, provide words of encouragement prior to me trying new things and someone I could always talk to when needed. She is the type of mom that my friends love to hang out and talk with when they come over to my house. We always have so much fun, and I’m not afraid to admit that. There is no one I have more fun shopping with, singing in the car with and laughing at jokes that no one else finds funny. She knows how to be my best friend and my mom at the same time.

I have recently noticed how much I continue to follow in her footsteps. This past year, I have declared that I will be majoring in Business Administration & Finance, which is exactly my mom’s area of expertise. She has taught me that anything is possible and your dreams can be achieved with hard work and dedication. Thank you for pushing me to be the best version of myself and pointing out the important things in life by having a big heart.

One of the most admirable things about my mom is how she always puts others' needs above her own, especially when it comes to our family. She deserves a big thank you for instilling love in my heart. Without her guidance throughout the years, I would have never gotten to where I am today. For this, I owe her everything, and could never find a way to thank her enough. Now every time someone says, "You act and look just like your mom," I can't help but smile and cherish that.

I love you to the moon and back, Mom! xoxo

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
