Of course, everyone knows that the new year is a year filled with your future goals and resolutions. And most of us know how well we stick to these extreme goals of ours. (Usually, I last for the first week). Unlike previous years, let's make this year YOUR year. Your year to create yourself, find happiness and be ambitious for 2017. To help make this year your year, here are some helpful tips to making realistic goals that you are guaranteed to achieve.
1. Be Specific
Many of us can relate to making new year's resolutions that are complex and difficult to meet. Some of these goals might be to lose weight, write a book or run a marathon. To make these goals achievable, be specific on what exactly you want and how you are going to achieve this goal. For instance, instead of saying I want to lose weight, maybe think of certain areas of your body you want to focus on and how much weight you plan to lose.
2. Plan
Planning out your goals and resolutions will keep you organized and on track. Writing down your goals, creating deadlines and fitting your goals into your lifestyle will help make your new year resolutions come true. An easy example of this could be creating a specific workout plan that fits in your schedule.
3. Start Out With Small Goals
Starting out with one goal at a time will help you stay focused on completing each goal. Most of the time, we find ourselves starting several goals at a time, but never completing them. The small goals are building blocks for the larger goals. For instance, if you want to write a book, your first goal might be choosing a topic and then writing a chapter every week.
4. Positive Reminders
Reminding yourself of the goals you set for 2017 will keep you engaged and driven to stick to your resolutions. Setting positive reminders will help remind you of why you started and to keep pushing through to reach your goals.
5. It's The Journey
Making new year's resolutions can be fun, but sticking to them is sometimes difficult. Try to not focus on the end result, but be aware of the progress you've made throughout the year. Along this journey, you may find yourself making excuses and doubting your capabilities, but stay positive and embrace this long journey. Because it's the journey, not the destination, that matters.
