Why you should consider voting this fall

Your Vote Counts

There are many young people who have just turned 18 or now have the opportunity to vote in a presidential election. The task must seem daunting considering what a monumental campaign our nation is faced with. The sad thing is, that many will choose not to vote because the decision is too "hard". Although the 2016 race for presidency has not been average, and the candidates are equally problematic so every vote counts. It may seem to someone who is not interested or involved in politics how much of a difference one vote makes. The electoral college does play a part in electing the president but the popular vote is a key component and will affect the nation.

Each vote can count especially in an election such as this one where it is not so clear as to who will be leading our country. Also not voting is taking your citizenship to the US for granted because it is your civic duty to vote. Not every country is run as a democracy, some people would kill to be able to elect the person who would lead their country. Living in a country where you can make a difference in the government is a huge privilege and most people take that for granted. In addition if you do not vote in November you have no right to complain about who is president. If you do not put in the effort to make it known who you wanted to be the leader of our nation, then you don't get to complain. Your voice had an option to be heard and you deliberately chose not to take it.

I think that it would be one of the most satisfying things to cast my vote and let my country know what I want. It is so wonderful that we live in a nation where we value a democracy and let a people have a say in what we want and who we want to be leading and representing us. So, if you can vote take the opportunity to. It takes very little effort to make your voice known and fulfill your civic duty.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
