With the election coming up fast, I have heard many opinions about candidates and the future of this country. However, I have also heard many people say they will not be voting at all in this election. Now, I know this may be a hard decision to make for some, but choosing not to vote is the worst decision you could possibly make.
So, here are some reasons why you should hit the polls this November.
1. Voting is a right that many still don't have
Though it's easy to just skip this election and move on, you have to realize that thousands of people (if not more) have fought for your right to vote. When you decide to sit out the election, you aren't taking advantage of the rights you have. Those are rights that somebody in a less fortunate situation wishes they had. Somebody out there is giving up their life for the chance to make a difference in their own country with their vote. Don't just sit around and do nothing, your one vote could make a difference.
2. You're not just voting for a president
Yes, that is the biggest deal and one of the main reasons people go to vote, however, that isn't the only thing on the ballot. There is also voting for the House, Senate and even local governmental positions. Those people are just as important and can change a country too. Read up on who else is running and try to find someone you stand behind.
3. You are making a change
Many Americans believe in change but never actually vote to change things. The public wants to raise the minimum wage but Congress never passes it. Why? Because the supporters of these policies aren't actually voting. If you go out and vote, you can make a difference, and see the change. Like Gandhi said, "be the change you wish to see in the world." You don't have to be a protestor to see things change, you can change things just by casting a ballot.
4. This is your choice
When you are given a choice that can make an impact, why not make one? Even if you decide to vote third party, you are still voicing your opinion and trying to change what you think needs to change. Instead of sitting around and complaining about how this election is bad, go out and exercise your right to vote. You can make a difference even in the margin of victory of a candidate.
