It's fall, y'all! And it's almost over. With December (and thus Winter) looming, it's time to shape up those bucket lists and savor what's left of fall. Here are some good ideas to pass the time on Thanksgiving break:
1. Collect leaves
If your hometown is anything like mine, there are leaves on every street and in every yard. While they are still full and colorful, grab a few and maybe even learn how to press them so you can keep them for winters and winters to come.
2. Grab a friend for a final photo shoot
In the spirit of fall, take advantage of bright backgrounds and clear skies. Grab a camera (or a smartphone) and your bestie while you can go outside without freezing your fingers.
3. Make your own pumpkin spice treats
Cupcakes, coffee, pie, or if pumpkin isn't your favorite, opt for some homemade snickerdoodle cookies for the perfect transition into the Christmas season.
4. Or, learn how to talk turkey
You might have been helping your family in the kitchen since Thanksgiving 2001, or maybe you stay out for your sake and everyone else's. However, the family chefs would love an assistant, and we could all benefit from a brush-up on family tradition.
5. Watch football
There are some great professional games on Thursday, namely the Redskins and the Cowboys in a divisional battle. College more your style? Rivalry week hosts some instant classics in Alabama vs. Auburn (Roll Tide), Florida vs. Florida State, and Michigan vs. Ohio State. Your family's football fan will be happy to teach you who to root for and why.
6. Play board games with your siblings
Whether they are 9 or 29, cue the nostalgia and pull out your favorite game for a cozy, screen-free time with your sibs. A break from screens helps you bond, and head back to school after break feeling like you spent quality time with the people who made you, you.
7. Buy your pet a new toy
While I strongly suggest avoiding stores on Black Friday, I do think you'll be your pup's favorite family member if you snag a new squeaker for them to fetch, hide, or chew to smithereens.
8. Do your Black Friday shopping online
Most stores offer their great deals on their websites. This way you won't spend time away from family and friends, just to be tired and cold, but you still cross things off that ever-growing list.
9. Write
A great way to show your family how thankful you are for them, write a poem. Not your style? Journal about the break and let the good memories motivate you during your finals week crunch.
10. Take a nap
The old favorite. Warm blankets and the comfort of home. See you in December!
